If the political views of everyone involved in a game's development had to 100% align with mine I could not buy any game. Besides you don't even know if Rowling gets a cut of the sales, are the contracts public, or what? I mean they might just gave a one time payment like CDPR to the Witcher writer and not an actual cut of the sales.
As for selling well, the game already outsold Elden Ring by 50% in the same amount of time. So the boycott clearly failed, just as the pathetic boycott of The Last of Us failed. I just want games to be games and not a political battleground.

I agree, definitely not an EA game and from the reviews I have heard it seems like it is an absolutely amazing game and I am gutted I am unable to play it at the moment.

I do feel though even though it is early days that this is very much going to be Game of The Year and I will be very shocked if it doesn't get that. This game is loved by many even those who are not huge Harry Potter fans. My eldest son isn't a Harry Potter fan himself and he even wants to play it.

It's not an EA game, IDK where that came  from?!
I've played the game for about 16 hours now, and even though I never seen any of the movies, or read any of the books, I think it is an excellent game.
The attention to detail in this game is insane, every nook and cranny is filled with interactive stuff, sometimes I just stop and look at the amount of detail put into various locations. In Hogwarts Every statue and painting literally lives a life of its own. It is truly magical, figuratively and literally. Last time I played I just sat in the main menu for a while watching my character's expressions interacting with the environment. The animations in the game are top notch. I still can't believe a studio who never did anything on this scale was able to put this together and in such high quality. Every major hub is bustling with NPCs, many of whom are also questgivers, and most of them feel real, unlike the interactive hotspot role of NPCs in other games.
Of course no game is perfect, but the few negatives I found so far are far far outweighed by everything else. I don't think it is too early to call it that this  will be GOTY.

Hey Rossiya, you know what would  help revitalizing not just gaming but all industries? Not engaging in expansionist imperialist warfare. Just an idea.
A state run and funded game publisher? Just imagine all the great games designed by committee.

m76 got a reaction from Tonberry in Do you think cryptocurrency will ever be a currency used more frequently in gaming?
Cryptocurrency is not in its infancy, it is in its death throes. And I will open a bottle of champagne when it finally dies off.
Crypto is inherently wasteful, and using it for such small transactions is completely impractical anyway. It takes days for a transaction to register and get approved on the blockchain.
And the volatility makes it useless as a common currency for people outside of speculators. Nobody in their right mind should keep their hard earned cash in cryptocurrency. So then what would be the point of converting your actual currency to crypto before buying a gaming item?

Since I already don't like to pay more than $45 for new games, a remake is worth $20 at most for me. And remasters should be a free upgrade to those who already own the original.

I was disappointed with Gran Turismo 7 and as a massive Gran Turismo fan since the original game, I couldn't believe how badly Sony screwed it up.

Actually the overbearing Keanu part is what ruined the game for me. I wanted an authentic cyberpunk story, but everything in the game is overshadowed by Keanu's character. You constantly play second fiddle to him and what he says goes every time, you can never deny him, and if you don't do everything to suck up to him you get one of the bad endings for the game. I hated his character so much, and even though I enjoyed the gamplay I could not get myself to re-play the story more than once due to that.

Same here - Gran Turismo 7 was definitely a disappointment with the the always online feature and the microtransactions. I don't even own a PS5 or PS4 currently but I'd never touch that game and I have always loved Gran Turismo since I was a kid.

m76 got a reaction from Withywarlock in How do you feel about the concept of AI gaming
The code that controlled NPCs in games has been called AI since the first games. But in reality for the most time that code had very little or nothing in common with what computer science calls artificial intelligence.
NPC "AI" in games work based on a predetermined set of parameters and triggers,  there is no actual intelligent thinking involved.
On the other hand making NPCs actually intelligent, doesn't necessarily mean  a better gaming experience. We do not want a carbon copy of reality in our games, we want an isolated haven where the rules of engagement are clear. Intelligent enemy AI would make the games way too frustrating and unpredictable. Preventing the game from fulfilling it's purpose as escapism.

One big thing is that better AI is not always more fun. For the game I'm working on, we did a huge AI overhaul. As part of that we tested 3-4 flavors of new AI code. One of them was this super advanced almost human like AI. It was amazingly hard, enemies would flank you efficiently, they'd hide from you and sneak attack, they'd pick up weapons off the ground, they'd communicate with each other, at one point I thought they were just fucking with me and we were secretly playing multiplayer.

m76 got a reaction from Withywarlock in DLCs you like more than their base games?
The first such title is Dragon Age Origins Awakenings. OK, this is from before the time of DLCs as this is an actual physical expansion pack. I think the maps and the story and the characters are all much better in this than the original game, which had a ton of long boring story segments and repetitive encounters.
Mass Effect 3 - The Citadel is also a good mention, it is a good DLC with tons  of feelgood and fanservice content, that if only momentarily can distract you from the obvious shortcomings of the game, and how it failed to give a satisfactory ending to the story.
For the same game Leviathan DLC is also a good one, it is more like an investigation story, going after clues and learning intriguing things, even if ultimately it raises more questions than it answers.
Defense Grid The Awakening - You Monster The base game is already one of my favorites but this DLC puts an extra spin on it, by incorporating Glados from Portal as the villain.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I wish AC just forgot the present completely and just be period pieces set in various times through history. I never liked the original AC games, the first one I liked was Odyssey which was the third I played after AC 1 and 2.

I don't, I actually don't like playing games at night. Outside of brand new games I'm extremely excited for and enjoy, I rarely play beyond 9 pm.
My ideal game time is on weekend mornings and holidays.

It would be freaking hell living the rest of my life without videogames. But at $1 billion I might be able to substitute that by real life thrills. But for $10 million? I buy  a home and 5 sports cars, and I'm broke. But if I have $1 billion I could rent a race track every weekend and just play gran turismo in real life.

I don't even know what is my favorite game, good luck to them figuring it out. I'd take the money any day. Even for a tenth I'd give up one game from my library, whichever it may be.
Now if the question was would I give up video games entirely, the answer would be hell no. Not even for $10 million. Maybe I'd budge at $1 billion.

m76 got a reaction from killamch89 in Save points >>> Menu saving in my opinion
Yeah save points are a good addition to suspense in games. You can not interact with them when you are in a fight, so it can't be exploited like in many other checkpoint based games.
Beiing able to save at will is good for many games, but it can also lead to recklessness. If you are not worried about failing at all, because you save at every corner that kind of takes away the suspense. Which in turn reduces immersion.

m76 got a reaction from StaceyPowers in What would you want from a TLOU III game?
I don't think voluntarily joining forces would  be realistic given their history.
The way it could work is if someone does come up with a cure that could be created without killing Ellie, but a rival faction kidnaps her and wants to keep the cure. And through circumstance Abby has to go to another continent to get her back. Most post apocalyptic games like Fallout are set in the US, so it would be nice if a post apocalyptic game was set in an entirely other location for once.
It would be a few years after the second, and Abby and Lev would be on separate paths, Abby after loosing everything would be working as a mercenary for hire, thus she'd get the assignment to get Ellie back. Only finding out that it is actually her after accepting the contract. But when she gets to the enemy compound it turns out Ellie already escaped, so Abby has to track her, but Ellie thinks they are tracking her to re-capture her, not to bring her home. Of course the player would again alternate between both characters.
At least that's my fan fiction.

If you are a true game lover you would certainly have spent some long streak of hours playing video games. My longest hours playing video games at a stretch is 48hours sounds unreal but it's true. this was during the heat of the pandemic in 2020 movements were restricted so I was practically stuck at home .
I found a really cool game called Persona 5 Royal for my ps4 console with really exciting contents a lot of characters, more dialogue, unending quests and activities and lengthy overall time to fit them into. I got so hooked trying to complete quests and adventure I didn't even realize I have been playing for several hours only taking breaks for meals or snacks.
what's the longest hours you've spent on a video game in a stretch?
