StaceyPowers reacted to Heatman in If you fail to complete a task many, many times in a game, do you want the game to offer you to skip it?
If it affects my sanity in a very dangerous way, I'm definitely taking a walk from it and not even just skipping it to be very honest with you. My sanity comes first in anything I do.

Are there games you can think of that do a really good job with things that you typically don’t like in games?
Like, for example, if you find fetch quests annoying, is there a game that actually makes fetch quests fun? Etc.

Thanks alot for bringing this wonderful 'Shagger 'TLOU II quality review. He really spent some good time to put up every word in order for the review of the game.

I think people pick up things when they're on major discounts "just in case" sometimes, only to never really decide to play them.

StaceyPowers reacted to Kane99 in Does anyone else find configuring brightness for games confusing?
With brightness, I tend to turn it up more, unless it starts to get too grainey. Some games can be too dark sometimes, kinda like how some movies are too dark to see a scene. That's why brightness comes in handy.

That's the review that's got me into playing the game The Last of Us II immediately after reading it. It was one hell of a review.

I much prefer quality over quantity. Your reviews are far more thoughtful and insightful than most, and feature amazing breadth and depth.

I'm not sure what @Justin11 is referencing. I haven't written any game reviews. But I do sing the praises of TLOU and its sequel pretty often, so perhaps that is it 🙂

StaceyPowers reacted to The Blackangel in WE FOUND MY FUCKING TITLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At long last, the title to my Camaro has been found! My best friend came over last night to help clean and search, and she found the god damn thing! After months of being in panic mode, I can finally license my car, and start to enjoy it. (so this is what it's like to breathe again) I was about ready to have both a heart attack and an aneurysm at the same damn time. It has a tiny little bit more work to do in the shop, but after that, I'm going for a ride all over town. But no gravel roads. And she gets premium. None of that lower octane shit. I will be waxing her and using Armor All on her all the time. Under no circumstance whatsoever will food or drink be allowed inside her except for me having a soda or water. Fuck everyone else.
BUT I FINALLY HAVE HER BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use my gaming laptop literally once or twice a year when I'm stuck in some  hotel on a work related trip. It just sits on my desk the rest of the time.
The recommendation is to leave the battery in it but don't leave it fully charged, just let it discharge to about 50% when in storage. But a few weeks shouldn't matter, this is more relevant for long term storage.

Actually, I change my mind. Watch Dogs Legion represents our future under authoritarian rule. I think they really nailed it with that game. It is a glimpse into the future of how a major modern city will look when trying to get democracy back.

This article talks about a study where researchers taught a Pong-like game to cells: “Using this DishBrain system, we have demonstrated that a single layer of in vitro cortical neurons can self-organize and display intelligent and sentient behavior when embodied in a simulated game-world.”

I probably should have said ages ago, amazing review as always @Shagger. I love your attention to detail and your balanced outlook.
I just finished my first playthrough. tbh, I reached the end and felt somewhat confused, as it indeed was not quite a "happy" ending--but it did not seem nearly as bleak and crushing as advertised by so many reactions. But it seems on researching that much of the "controversy" was a reaction to having to play as Abby--i.e. having to absorb another perspective and develop empathy. I do not know if this can even be considered entirely separate from all the transphobic complaining--after all, these complaints also come from gamers who do not want to absorb another perspective.
Many reviewers also do not consider other perspectives, or treat their opinions as objective all-encompassing realities. You do not do this, and even examine different facets of your own point of view through a critical eye. I very much appreciate this quality in you.

    That is true.
So amazing how an enemy turned friend like Lev, helped Abby in her 'reckoning'. Which I think ultimately helped Ellie in her 'reckoning'.
I'm gonna be thinking about everything for a long time. This game will have that impact.

StaceyPowers reacted to The Blackangel in Is there anything in games you have become desensitized to?
Violence. But that's not really due to gaming. It only helped me go numb to it. I often walk up to people I've killed in RDR2 and shoot them in the head with a shotgun of some sort just to watch their head explode. It's really funny to see them laying there, their head explodes, and there's nothing left but a stump. It's also why I play Hatred. I relate to The Antagonist and feel everything he does. Going out and killing every human that he encounters. The cops eventually get you, but you can make it into the PD and kill a lot cops them in there, as opposed to looking for civilians. But running out of ammo sucks.

StaceyPowers reacted to Withywarlock in Do you ever avoid certain areas just to keep NPCs from dying?
I can appreciate this mindset, and yes, I do. Failing that I save-scum trying to defeat the threat before the character dies. Going with your example of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, I frequently try to defeat the first giant you come across before the Companions do so I don't get scolded and feel welcome for my inevitable joining. But there's all manner of RPGs where I do the same, I just can't quite figure out which ones. They're mostly Elder Scrolls ones though, I can tell you that much.
There's a lot of opportunities for this in Spyro the Dragon, where enemies try to trap, chase and eat the fodder which Sparx can use to restore his health. Destroy the trap(per) and the fodder can go on its pre-programmed route oblivious that its life has been saved.

Do you ever steer clear of certain areas in open world games just to prevent triggering events that will kill NPCs? Like I avoid the orc settlement near Riften in Skyrim because walking past it often triggers a giant attack I can’t always intervene with in time.
