    The Libertine
I'm an obsessive fan of Johnny Depp, and this movie gives his best performance ever. He plays a 16th century English nobleman, who is friends with the king, but royally (no pun intended) pisses him off constantly. It's difficult to follow and get into the first time you watch it, but it is more than worth seeing. It has John Malkovich and Samantha Morton in it as well.

    1) A competent leader that actually serves the people, and not himself/herself.
    2) A strong economy that is able to maintain a decent life for people willing and/or able to work for it.
    3) A crime scale as low as it can possibly be with able and intelligent law enforcement. We need some prison reform as well, because the system we have now just isn't working.
    4) Viable programs for those that aren't able to work due to mental and/or physical disabilities.
    5) Healthcare. Think Canada.

What does it mean? Virtually all countries would no longer exist, because they are all so far beyond broken that they just can't be fixed. Dust will not give you back the Colosseum.

StaceyPowers reacted to The Blackangel in How do you organize/store your consoles?
Let's see, consoles I'm currently playing regularly:
Atari 2600, NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, PS1, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and GBA SP. To name the ones that run more or less daily. With me, I keep the ones That I don't have hooked up at that current moment in file cabinets and plastic storage tubs. The amount of systems and games I have all combined takes up an entire closet, shelving and floorspace. And I also have duplicate systems. I think 5 PS2's for example and 4 PS3's. Somewhere around here there is an Xbox 360, 2 Wii's, and a Game Cube. Where they're at, I have no clue. I wasn't a fan of any of the 3 so it was always my girl that played them, with a rare exception. I liked Soul Caliber II, and Mario Kart on Wii. That's about it.
When you're a cripple, you don't have a lot of options for entertainment, so you tend to have a lot of something when you find one that works. hence, my amount of gaming systems.

And interesting topic. Well thought up.

I think we will. It may not be exactly like it is on Star Trek, but I do see this being technically possible in our lifetime. What I find more interesting is how holodecks are featured culturally. Video games, whilst they have gained some serious stock and are more respected than ever as a mature pastime, aren't yet respected in the world of culture as perhaps they should be. The "holo-novels" in Star Trek, which are basically like role-playing narrative games, are a cultural expression held in no lower stature than classic novel would be today. I know that video games will be respected like that someday, but I would like to think that time is closer than how long it'll take for technology to get that advanced. They also use holodecks for training, experiments as well as recreation, and I see that in the future of gaming technology as well.

I have a few games here that I specifically use a Game Genie on every time I play them anymore. And it's not so I can make me so powerful that I can just breeze by everything. It's actually the opposite. I use codes to make my character weaker and my enemies stronger. The reason is because there are some games that, over the years, I've just gotten too good at. And while I love playing them, there's no challenge left. So I pop them in through the GG, and it's all good. My favorite games, redone with more challenge than before.

I don't find caring for a Sims needs particularly stressful, but that might be because I've played it so much. I know my sister finds that it's suddenly become stressful since she switched from PC to Playstation, which I find weird. Can it somehow be harder on console??? Anyway, it's the only game I've used cheats for, though not out of some posh idea that that's a bad thing. It depends on what people find fun. In the Sims I've sometimes used money cheats, depending on the story. The thing is, if you want to make enough money to buy a decent house, you'll never get there just by getting to the top of a fancy career. You have to either grind and grind on painting or writing or you have to, like, have a store that specializes in only selling one very expensive violin. In the real world people don't buy houses like that, they take a loan. And sometimes I don't feel like playing the story of grinding for cash, sometimes I want to focus on other aspects, like a career. So sometimes in my "stories" I decide that they happened to have a rich uncle or that they took out a loan for the house or whatever. It's not a goal oriented game, it's a story oriented game. However, it makes a difference that it's a single player game, so I'm not effecting the game of others. I figure if I was cheating to make myself super powerful in a multi-player game, where others were effected, that would make a difference! I also think that some games would get pretty boring if you cheated your way through the levels, but to each their own.
I like that in Planet Zoo, the simulation game I'm currently hooked on, there's franchise mode, where you have to make a zoo run financially, and then there's sandbox mode, where you have infinite cash and can just be creative building whatever your heart desires. I figure that's a bit like using cheats in The Sims.

It's not "Cheat Codes" per se but I often use the debug console commands on games like Skyrim.  In particular for crafting materials if I can't be bothered to go round the map visiting multiple merchants to find what I'm looking for.  It's also useful for getting around certain bugs.

Yes, that's one of the brilliant, and infuriating, things in Skyrim. There's no obvious good or bad side to side with.

I recently started watching Stranger Things, and I love how the teamwork skills the characters developed playing D&D help them to work together in real life. It made me reminisce about how I learned a lot of teamwork skills playing MUDs, probably more than I picked up on doing group projects in school.
Playing MUDs helped me learn some basic etiquette that helps facilitate teamwork (apparently I didn’t learn that stuff as a kid), and also helped me feel more comfortable in leadership roles. Both have served me well in business IRL.
For those here who play MMOs, FPS games, co-op games and so forth, have you learned valuable teamwork skills doing so? What specific skills, and how have you applied them IRL?

Following up on this topic about the future of VR, do you think we’ll ever have a true, full-immersion VR experience that incorporates all of the senses, like the holodeck in Star Trek? I’ve seen websites for a few companies in the past that were trying to create holodeck-like VR experiences (i.e. you show up at their facilities, put on a headset, and they provide the rest of the effects in your RL surroundings). What do you all think of this concept?

No Man's Sky with all the improvements since it launched.  The aforementioned "My Pet Dungeon" DLC for War for the Overworld is really good as well.

You may laugh at this one, but if you have an N64 laying around, or an emulator, you could try Banjo Kazooie. Yes it's a children's game, but it's also very relaxing to play. It's really cutesy but it's also really easy.

I feel games dealing with religion can be fun. Like in Shiny's Messiah where you play a cherub with the ability to possess humans, which you have to use to stay hidden and defeat Satan to remove his grip on mankind. It's a fun game.

Thanks 🙂 You're right! On my to do list is becoming less scared of people. Shanking might be a bit too much, but yelling "fuck you" and walking off might be achievable. 😄 My family are all fundamentalist Christians, so I'm used to walking on eggshells. Fortunately I've got my boyfriend and friends, who are all just as godless as me.
When it comes to religion in games, I think it's good when it's a reasonable part of the story. Preferably a made up religion. It looks like this Jesus game doesn't just use it as a part of it's universe, it preaches Christianity to the kids who play it (I'm focusing on the young gamers, who are more impressionable than adults). Children should learn about religion, all religions, not just one, and they shouldn't be preached to. I think fantasy religions in games, like the religion of the Stormcloaks in Skyrim, teaches kids about religion as part of humanity, and I think that's positive.

StaceyPowers got a reaction from kingpotato in What made you buy your console of choice?
Just read that @The Blackangel recently bought an Xbox One after avoiding Xbox for a very long time after spotting a great deal at GameStop.
It got me wondering what motivated everyone here to buy the consoles you own.
For the longest time, I was a PC-only gamer, until I managed to buy my current PS3 off of my neighbour for cheap after borrowing it for a year or so.
Between PlayStation and Xbox, I was always leaning toward PlayStation, simply because I am not a big fan of Microsoft. I do feel like Sony is really backwards with a lot of its policies and attitudes though, so both options leave a lot to be desired. I will buy the PS5 and not the Scarlett though, because of Sony’s exclusives.
What about you? What made you choose the console you have today?

I've had a scorpion, 2 ball pythons, macaw, hedgehog, copperhead (don't ask), and a raccoon. That's just what I can remember off the top of my head. But if I was to pick something else it would probably have to be a tarantula. I've always thought they were really cool.

I got an Xbox One. GameStop was selling them for $99, so I picked one up. Nevermind that I've hated Xbox since the first one. But I figured I would give it another chance since there has been a couple new generations. I've always been a Nintendo fan, but I hated GameCube and wasn't a particularly big fan of Wii. So I figured what the hell.

On another thread, @Alyxx, @killamch89 and I were talking about spending lots of time customizing characters. I wanted to know if anyone here has screenshots to share of their favorite characters that they put a lot of work into? I would share, but I have still not figured out how to take screenshots on my PS3 =D
