StaceyPowers reacted to Reality vs Adventure in The brilliance of playable NPC in Watch Dogs Legion
This needs a special topic because I think it's the first game ever made where you can pick whatever NPC you want to play. It's pretty awesome to choose who you want to join your crew. It gives a bit of respect to all NPC's that populate the environment. I never want to run anyone over cause you don't know who they are. Everyone has value in that game. Part of the fun is just trying to recruit people you have an interest in. Sometimes you can see your crew members walking down the street. And your actions influence NPC's throughout London.
I'm playing on the mode where if your character dies, they are gone for good. And it's amazing that kind of realism. I know other games have that kind of strategy in the Souls series, but this is more realistic. And every character looks different, and has different skills and background. It gives you a chance to fantasize and play the kind of person you wish to be. Especially in a dystopian broken corrupt world. Who do you want to be? So many looks. Putting myself in their shoes with everyone being so different creates so many different personalities.
I'm hooked on it. What are your thoughts on that kind of interactions? I really hope other games adapt that ability. Well, that's one of the best damn things I've ever experienced in gaming.

The PS4 does have it was well, as do a lot of PC launchers and other consoles. It's actually quite common. Don't get me wrong, I do like it. There's something very satisfying about knowing how much of a game you've completed.

StaceyPowers reacted to kingpotato in Do we need somewhere for people to "chat" instead of the amount of PM style posts going on in the forum?
I agree something has to be done about this but at the same time I dont want people to be discourage to make any type of comment. One of my main complaints is that when a thread gets overwhelmed with unrelated comments the actual releated comments tend to be ignore and this is mostly because all of us tend to check and reply to the latest comments made and sometimes when this happens a lot of people tend to ignore the original post. I just had this issue today were I decided to create a whole new thread for the PSplus service update since the original had over 100 unrelated comments on it already and I was afraid my updated comment went unoticed, and thats the whole point some times I dont bother on commenting on some threads since its currently being used for something else unrelated to the topic so Im afraid of wasting my time making a comment that is going to be ingnored or majorly unoticed.

But I do have to say Im totally against Discord, I dont use it and I dont want to use it, Just like DC said once,  If we start using discord that is going to take away activity from the forum. More modderators might help but thats not going to 100% eliminate the problem. Adding a sub section to the thread might help but again thats not going to solve the problem entirely. I do agree that we need to start changing the habits of the users on the forum, even if we are not modderators we should encourage other users to stop making unrelated comments on the thread and focus on the original post. As well there should be an option to remove or delete those comments from thread.

I think a lot of things shouldn't be discussed on the Discord server if that's what was decided. @DC's concerns about traffic moving of the website is a legitimate concern. This would only work if posts on the Discord sever were limited to what we DON'T want discussed on the threads. The more impulsive chat points about games or whatever that don't really work as full on forum posts.

I skipped from PS3 to PS5, so I don’t know if PS4 has this, but I love that PS5 shows me the percentage I have completed of each chapter of a game when possible. It makes it so much easier to pace myself as I am closing in on the end of something. It even offers time estimates. As a result, it is much less likely to wind up in the middle of a final boss fight way past when I want to be sleeping.

I suppose that is a benefit of long couches in general. But I’d say that the nice thing about this product is that it can add more comfort and versatility to any seating situation, so long as it fits.
Superb! I am sure his son will love it.
So, did you get it yet? How is it? Or are you still waiting on it to arrive?

Definitely; I like it when games give you a chance to stop and look around and think. And it's not just the view for me, but sometimes I piece things together, make more sense out of things, and even let my imagination wonder.
And when you know you are about to kill someone, coming from the shadows, you have analyzed the situation a hundred ways to kill, while they have no clue what's coming; then walk real slow. Taste death coming in the air. See the shadows move. Weapons glisten. Just walk real slow like a bad ass. Throat slice one. Let the next enemy see me. Let them charge after me. And I just walk real slow and take in the moment before my blade is thrusted and hacked and sliced through all his warm meat. Smell the iron of blood splash on me, and walk. Walk on. 🤣

StaceyPowers reacted to Empire in What makes for a good new enemy in a game series?
I really like nuanced enemies that are easily understandable on the surface. I think they have to make sense in the world as well. Say what you will about Last of Us 2, but they have probably provided me with some of my favroite enemies to kill. Everyone has their own name and seemingly their own personality, they all have emotions and push the games themes, and my own personal favorite thing in a game; every enemy is a threat. I love in games where every enemy is a task, so I don’t really find the army of peons in hack and slash games all very enjoyable haha

I’m playing a short game right now, and I tend to drag my feet when I know a game is short, because I don’t want it to be over. In doing so this time around, I realized something. When I really slow down and do not have a constant motivation to keep pushing forward in a game, and I just look around and imagine I’m really in the game environment, it is so much more immersive. I highly recommend it.

Yes! If I'm having a hard time with a fight, I often walk away for a week, then come back, and my brain has figured out the solution.

Thank you both for understanding my complaint (a lot of people here seem to think I was complaining about skin tone diversity, which I was not, ugh) and proposing an explanation for it! That does make a lot of sense!

I've noticed skin tones being a bit off. Too much yellows and reds. The yellow makes them look like they got hep c or something and the reds look like they got sunburnt. Even many times the whites are a bit pale. And when you want a little color, they get yellow. I guess it's hard to make a peach color because they don't know how to balance yellows and reds.

What causes this is lighting. Realistic lighting is a very compute intensive feature to achieve. And games only have rudimentary imitations of light.
Even ray tracing is very limited at this point, it would require the computing power of gaming systems to increase multiple magnitudes to get it close to realism.
Games have single point lights in most cases, and lots of baked in lights. Scattered light and bouncing light are not taken into account by most, and even when it is, it is imitated not natural.  And this becomes most apparent on objects that are not part of the game world but able to move around in it. And that includes the player character.
It is something that we'll have to live with for a while longer no matter how glaring.
What I hate the most is that in many games the character will look different in the character creator than in the game environment, because the character creator uses a lighting model that has no relation to in game lighting.  This is why I find it important for games to have the option to alter the character after starting the game, so you can adjust for these discrepancies.

Which of the extras are the ones that are moving you toward a purchase?
That is a great point! This is something that I tend to think a lot about, partly because I sometimes write advertising copy, and partly because it is just one of my interests. What features of their presentation did you enjoy most?
I know, right? It would already be an amazing value even without the discount. The discount is just a bonus. So, I take it that you would get it if it was at full price even?

Are there menu options or abilities that you think would make follower management easier in future Elder Scrolls or Fallout games? For example, I think it would be ideal if there were always a way to teleport one’s follower to one’s location, as they seem to get stuck or lost a lot.

I'm going to go with the yakuza games, the world to explore may be small and some woulden't call it open world perse but the world that is there is jam packed with minigames and side missions that are interesting and fun to do, something ubisoft could learn a thing or two from.
If you want ps3 open world games i'd suggest :
    Yakuza 3,4 and 5
Infamous 1 and 2 -> great ps3 exclusives from insomniac kind of a superhero game where you get powers based on being good and bad.
The saboteur -> Nobody really talks about this game anymore, but i really liked this one kind of ac during world war 2, you blow up a lot of stuff.
also why not try out kingdoms of amalur and i'll name it for the hell off it Driver : san francisco.
and how could i forget Dragon's dogma -> capcom's answer to skyrim, often forgotten but still well worth checking out.
