Yeah videogames (and movies) pretty much taught me English at an early age , it also helped me to think outside of the box and come up with solutions that others wouldn't probably think about in the past. As @Justin11 and @Heatman above said it also helped me with my driving skills and reacting skills when driving. I'm also from believe that gaming can be benefitial for your mental health because it's supposed to make you happy

There isn't a whole lot interesting anybody could add after @Shagger his post. He pretty much killed this thread on the spot lol, as i couldn't agree more with his  entire posts and could not have a better job at phrasing it.
There were days i feel like a complete loser for playing videogames all day on a free day mostly during the winter when there is not much else to do then stay inside, wondering wherest i could have done something more usefull. Take today it's too hot to do anything and since i still have vacation, so i spend the entire playing day playing dragon quest 11, right now i've got the feeling i could have done something better with my time on the other hand i enjoyed my time because it's rare that i get to play a couple of hours after one another.
Anyway To the topic at hand, some people just love to call out others because they have different hobbies. It's so easy to call out an adult who watches cartoons and plays videogames and tell to them grow the fuck up, while on the other side they watch the most stupid shit imaginable on tv and are mostlikely bitter because of their own shitty life so they work their frustration out on somebody else.

Yaramaki got a reaction from Withywarlock in Is there any such thing as "overhyped" or "overrated" video games?
Seems like i never replied to this thread but overhyped and overrated i'd call both terms equally bad for a videogame or for any product for the matter. From personal experience those terms are usually associated and used by people who have no clue what they are talking about, you know those idiots who can't form an oppinion by themselves and take every word somebody else tell them for granted. Offcourse it's way easier to jump on the bandwagon and slam a product that is selling well and becomes populair instead of trying it out for themselves and see what it is like and maybe get an oppinion of there own.
Don't know where the above came from but it irritates the hell out of me, when i see somebody slamming on a game or a franchise they have barely or even never played because somebody else told them it was shit.

Yaramaki reacted to Withywarlock in What are politics like in big MMOs?
Guild politicking is a fairly big thing. I've been in numerous scenarios, not as dramatic as I'd like to make them sound from robbing guild banks, staging coups, running guilds and moderating merger efforts.
The thing about most MMO systems is they're not democratic, and do bear with me as most of my experience is with World of Warcraft. Barring vote-kicking (democracy), it's usually meritocracy (rankings/ratings/gear), plutocracies (having the most money), or dictatorships (developers and guild masters) which governs the game's systems.
It was particularly interesting in guilds: you can't outvote a guild master, the game doesn't recognise anyone but them to be the sole authority. Staging a coup won't work because they don't have to step down, and Game Masters (customer support) can't and won't take any action unless it's in very specific cases, usually regarding the guild bank or abuse. Guild Mergers were a fun time too, but 'merger' puts one-in-a-million of such occurances too professionally. As Preach Gaming once put it: "what I have seen work is a guild 'merge' where under the same title, where five people join thirty people and they fucking... join their guild." He goes on to say quite adequately, "just look at the UK right now: we have a co-Prime Minister... nope. Not really. There's only one guy who got to shake the Queen's hand, right?" Ironically that coalition between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats was (unofficially) shortened down to Con-Dem, which if it needs spelling out sounds a lot like 'condemned'. Let that speak to any prospects of guild mergers.
Beyond that, I can't think of many examples of politics coming about in MMOs. It's mostly ramblings in Trade Chat that, let's face it, won't go anywhere because it's happening in a video game chat channel, and guilds tend to have a rule about no politics in chat. And then proceed to ignore it.
Sounds a lot like EVE Online.
Yep, that's EVE Online, or "Spreadsheet Simulator" as it's affectionately known! 🤑

I made the post quoted below on this thread quite a while ago that sums up a lot of my feelings on this:

To take it further, those people do have a point. Face it, playing video game's isn't productive. You'll never cure cancer or solve world hunger by sitting on your couch with a controller in your hand, but the same is also true of playing golf, watching TV or sitting by a riverbank with a stick getting piss ass drunk (Apparently, it's called "fishing", but as far as I know that's all you do). These things, like gaming, are called past times for a reason. The clue is in the name, they are literally ways to pass the time and nothing more. They are nothing practical, profitable nor helpful to anyone, it's just leisure. So the next person who talks down to you for being a gamer as an adult, ask them what thier hobbies are and if they answer with literally anything, they're hypocrites. If they answer with nothing, feel desperately sorry for them, but feel vindicated as you are the one with a soul.

i don't really need anything to keep me coming back to the board, like i never came here with the mindset of winning something for that matter.
Since you are asking for me personally xbox is my main platform so it would be cool to get a digital code on offer every once in a while because it's always nice to get a code for a game that i would mostlikely never buy in the first place since i don't buy a lot of digital only games.

Yaramaki got a reaction from Withywarlock in Microsoft claims it ‘simply wouldn’t be profitable’ to make Call of Duty Xbox exclusive
Call of duty is one of the biggest game franchises today, it would be stupid on microsoft their part to go exclusive with the cod franchise when there is a lot of money to be made on a competitors platform, not only that but microsoft would piss a lot of people off with on that is never a good thing. Besides the costs of making a cod game would be impossible to recoup if they would go the exclusive route.
You know this is kind of a weird one, microsoft are in a strong position to negotiate a new deal for future games but you know anything goes these days. Like i wouldn't be suprised if we start seeing xbox exclusive go to playstation and vice versa if something like horizon or days gone would end up on a xbox console sooner or later or halo on a playstation console, Mlb the show is already on xbox consoles so you never know.
This is an interesting quote front the article and validates my point that microsoft isn't really interested in keeping things exclusive all that much.
So nah wouldn't worry too much about Cod being xbox/pc exclusive, probably won't happen as microsoft will want to start making money of their activision-blizzard aquisition.

Yaramaki got a reaction from kingpotato in Assasins creed 2 the best ASC game back in the day and also a ver bad ASC for todays standards
What's up @kingpotato haven't seen you around much lately, how have you been, hope all is well with you and your family?
Assasin's creed 2 is still my favourite in the series if you ask me as it was the perfect sequel in many ways as in being better in everithing the first ac game was and the perfect example of how you make a sequel->  Better story, better main character, more ways to kill your target, bigger map to explore and if we are being honest historically the Italian Renaissance is one of the most beautiful times to go back to.
But all praise aside while it's my favourite game in the ac series you're right it hasn't aged that well, especially control wise it's sometimes hard to make a correct jump, resulting in falling off buildings or jumping the wrong, resulting in your death in the process. But story wise it is still one of the best games in the series like the whole game is building up to this massive finale only to end with a major cliffhanger.
Assassin's creed was also the franchise that put Ubisoft on the map as a major publisher before that ubisoft was sort of this company while they made good games, they were never in the true classic territory. Well when you look back at it nothing has really changed these days. Ubisoft still puts out good games and While modern ac games are good and fun to play, you probably will not remember much of them in 10 years time. I'd always compare ubisoft games with a visit to an amusement park as you look forward to it  and while you play the game you'll have fun but when you are done, you forget most about it fairly quickly.
Same as you @kingpotato ac 2 will always have a special place in my heart and give it a few years time and probably to no ones surprise ubisoft announces a complete remake.

I've never seen First party nintendo games that came as a "download code in a box". It's usually the smaller third party companies like nacon, thq and uig entertaiment amongst some others that do this eventough there are smaller ubisoft and warner bros titles out there as code in a box aswell , but most of these releases usually have have had a cart release in the past.
You know funny this came up just now i emailed a couple of companies that started doing this a few years ago and to my surpise somebody at big ben (now nacon) and thq nordic emailed me back stating that it is done to offer the games as cheap as possible in retail stores and that it is done because they coulden't predict the demand for a game before hand, obviously telling me that most of the games had a cart release before, there was some other marketing talk in there that i can't remember but in other words it came down to we're too lazy and cheap to have do another round of cart releases and we want to make as much profit as possible.

Yaramaki got a reaction from Withywarlock in I Hate To Admit It, But Digital Distribution Is Growing On Me....
Is a good old school rant at place here or not,  this may take a while to write but ...
Nah i'm not into digital media distribution at all, infact as a video game collector it is against everithing i stand for. Call me stubborn or whatever you want but once consoles go all out flat digital, think i'm going to retire from modern gaming all together. However since joining vgr i got stoked again on current gen hardware and started enjoying bargain hunting for modern physical games, mainly the xbox platform again.
Never seen the benefit of digital either, yeah you can loose a game i can give you that. But damaging a game like a blu-ray disc if you use it the normal way it's damn near impossible to scratch up. Cartridges are usually robost things so unless you smash it on purpose you'll be fine. So it's a pretty lame to use that as excuse that digital is better then physical.
We have had these discussions before and feeling like i would only repeat myself again, i won't go into the whole digital vs physical arguement of ownership again because with modern gaming it doesn't matter all that much anymore, besides your disk is nothing but a license key these days to play the game, i've had games where there is literally only 40mb on the disc and the rest is a download, so physical disk or not it's the same as a digital download imo being the only difference you get a disk and a case instead of well nothing.
Nintendo first party titles and many games on switch are different in that regard as few games only require small downloads of patches, gotta give nintendo credit where it's due they seem to care that their games are as complete as possible before putting them on a cart. Offcourse can't really vouch for third party titles on switch as you know, you buy a switch for nintendo games and probably smaller indie titels aswell.
But we are going way off on the subject could be a neat thread in itself , is nintendo the last true gaming company that cares about finishing their games?
there is some benefit in digital media and i can see why others prefer it over physical media and you know it's your oppion, i can respect that. Not everybody has the space to store all that crap or has the desire to keep everithing around like me and you know that is fine. That would be the only benefit i can think of with going all digital and that's space. Maybe another factor where digital is better in is that many games woulden't even exist because of the likes of steam, psn, xbox store or nintendo eshop.
I've had this discussion with my girlfriend last week when we were on vacation where she asked me how many videogames do you own exactly? I coulden't really say exactly but pretty sure it's well over 12k at the moment, do i need all that stuff and why do i keep buying all that stuff, it's a question i'm hoping to find an answer to sooner rather then later. I still enjoy collecting videogames and the hunt for every game for a console/handheld still appeals to me after all these years and that what matters most to me, the enjoyment i get out of it, still being stoked when i get some mail in with some new games, being able to tick some games off what seems an endless list. You could almost say it gives me satisfaction and purpose in my life lol.
But i digress because in the end it doesn't really matter all that much, alsong the physical option is there, i'll support that, if somebody else doesn't, no problem. The most important aspect is playing and enjoying the videogames we buy.

Like i know it's narrowminded of me to say but somebody who smokes or is vegan or has 3 kids already would likely not work very well in my case and i'd probably pass on them as potential dating material.

Yaramaki got a reaction from Justin11 in Videogame Franchises that outstayed their welcome?
What makes you feel like a franchise like Wolfenstein and Mortal kombat have outstayed their welcome?
Wolfenstein are still some of the most fun and story driven single player fps out there. In a genre that is dominated by multiplayer games i'd say wolfenstein is a breath of fresh air.
Mortal Kombat is a franchise i don't know but dare i say it has overtaken street fighter in terms of quality and content. Mortal kombat is more fun to play then ever imo. We have gotten like 3 really good games in the past 11 years, you can hardly say Warner bros is milking the franchise dry or for the matter i've never heard anybody mentioning Mortal kombat needs to die alltogether. Sure during the ps2 area i'd say the franchise was at an all time low and probably should have died then but as it stands today give me more blood and gore lol.

Yaramaki got a reaction from Withywarlock in Favourite Achievements/Trophies in Games?
Currently fairly close to hitting 150k gamerscore myself, but the hunt and motivation went away for achievements as soon i hit 100k a few years back. If i diden't have to change gamertags because my girlfriend at the time paid for xbox live so i let her keep the id we both shared after we broke up, i'd probably have way more then that but eh it's just a number to me these days. It's so easy to boost your score if you're down with playing shit game after shit game these days that it doesen't even feel like an accomplishment anymore. Microsoft and sony really need to start thinking about overhauling their achievement and throphy system alltogether.
There are two that always stuck with and that is in a game called Bullet witch where you would get 1 gamerscore for beating the game on hell mode which would unlock after you beat the game, by then you pretty much had every other achievement bar that 1 gamerscore, always tought that was a funny one.
The other being in lollipop chainsaw where you had to try and look under the skirt of juliet if successfull you would unlock 5 gamerscore.
Usually the best achievements are where you have to go out of your way to do something weird or achievements that encourage you to play in different styles that the gameplay has to offer.

Yaramaki reacted to Withywarlock in Could games help us with climate change?
Could they directly help with climate change? I don't think so. I believe there's better mediums for showing that, and even they can't probably help us all that much besides raising awareness. Action is required, and choosing not to play the video game would probably be better for the environment (albeit not by much in the grand scale of things) than playing for it.
Don't get me wrong, I look at games like Frostpunk and think the scenario is dreadful but not entirely inaccurate, but it doesn't really have global warming at the heart of its message. Games can absolutely inspire awareness and action, but making a game specifically about global warming is still adding to the problem if that makes sense.
I'm afraid so. Electronics are getting more energy efficient especially compared with each decade, and even when they do have a greater wattage the power consumed is worth the cost (though perhaps not the cost to the environment). Even so, it's not as clean as we think it is. Cloud computing from what I understand uses 3% of the globe's electricity (the figures differ with each publication), and a lot of the cloud is metadata: advert preferences, private information, tracking, et cetera. I think electricity's one of those things where because we can't see it as well as gasses or polluted water, it's not contributing that great a problem. Like the cloud: out of sight, out of mind.

I always keep some around the house for when i don't have much time to cook or whenever i feel like getting some. The beauty of instant noodles apart from being cheap is that there are so many brands and flavours around you can constantly try out something new.
My personal favourites are just the good old nissin cup noodles, flavour doesn't really matter to me because they are all equally good.
