  1. When I'm too depressed to do or enjoy anything, that tends to include games too. Sometimes I can just sit and stare into space, feeling miserable, while even the smallest activity feels like a impossible, Herculean effort. So that's game breaking and no fun.

When I'm anxious I can't play games that require a certain level of tension, Adrenalin, fast reaction speeds or requires a good overview of a situation. F.eks. games that require fighting. That's when calming activities such as drawing or reading are better.

I also just have multiple hobbies, so sometimes I'm simply more in the mood for another of them than for gaming.

  2. I always find it quite funny how much stuff the characters can carry. It's especially prominent in The Sims, where there's no limit to how much Sims can carry around in their pockets, including bicycles and other such big things. In fact they don't even need to have pockets. And you don't see them carry it, it's just gone. But characters in most other games, even with limits to their inventory weight, can carry more than humanly possible, without being hindered in their ability to move or such. But I don't mind it, in fact I'd find it annoying to have inventory kept to the weight a human could carry around. You wouldn't be able to pick much up.

  3. I just play PC because that's what I'm used to really. And since all my games are for PC and I like controlling it with mouse and keyboard, I don't see the need for a console (I'm shit with a console controller, but I'm sure that's just because I've only tried it a few times. I'm much faster and more precise with a mouse and keyboard). It's also my impression that the choice in games is more limited than for PC. I also have the impression that you need multiple consoles and that you need to buy new ones more often than a gaming PC, to get to play every game you want. Meanwhile most games are released for PC. I also don't have a proper TV and I'd have to rearrange my livingroom in order to sit near it, but surely they can be hooked up to a computer screen. Anyway, these are the reasons I stick with my PC. For now at least. It's my impression that there's advantages and disadvantages to both and that the PC era might be coming to an end, with consoles growing in popularity. There must be a good reason why they're so popular that I just don't know about.

  4. I haven't had any consoles, but I figure I'd treat them the way I do a PC. I just bought my second ever gaming PC last month (still so excited!), and I don't think the old one, despite being ten years old, is being tossed anytime soon. It still works well and can play a bunch of older games I like, so it's nice to have as a backup. So for now, it's staying with me. If I get tired of how much space it takes up I'll give it away. Too old to sell.

  5. Spore. I think the basic idea could have turned into something good, but the game very much didn't work for me. I found it pointless and boring.

I haven't actually played Minecraft, but that's because it looked so far from something I enjoy, despite me usually loving building things in games. But then, I'm a sucker for impressive graphics.

  6. I bought myself a big present, with money I got as a gift from my parents (they usually give my sisters and I some money at the end of the year). A new gaming PC (stationary). So now I can play all the new games I want. I took advantage of Black Friday and got the computer I wanted with a good discount. I also bought a couple of awesome games to play on my new rig, that my 10 years old one couldn't even remotely handle. Planet Zoo, Planet Coaster and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

  7. I think it's a hard question too. I'm a complete sucker. Even though EA charges waaaaaay too much for DLC for The Sims 4 I still buy the stuff. I don't see myself buying a game where microtransactions are required for gameplay, but I can't say for sure. What I can do is support companies that (seemingly) deserve it by buying their games (if the game is something I might enjoy playing). Like Frontier (who have produced Planet Zoo and Planet Coaster, two games I've happily bought). They are however still a small business, I don't know if that makes it easier to do right by the customers, listen to the players, put out bug fixes in no time etc. It might take shady stuff to become an industry giant.

I've bought The Witcher 3 too, but didn't know about the controversy. However, had I known, I'd still probably have bought the game anyway. The game looked too awesome to pass on! At least I bought it with a 70% discount.

  8. I'm a Skyrim hoarder too! In the very beginning, until I get a house for storage and a companion to carry shit I tend to have a full inventory and then drop the least important/heaviest whenever I fill up completely. Come to think of it I almost always do that, since I bring the valuable loot I can carry.

I usually have the set of armor I'm wearing, two dual hand weapons (I tend to specialize in two hand weapons, so I have the one I use and a backup), a bow and arrows, magic robes, jewelry for enhancing various things, all the healing potions and lock picks I've found and some magica potions. Then there are the things I carry until I can use or store it, like stuff I've picked up for selling when I need money, ore when I've just mined, dragon bones and scales when I've just slain a dragon (to use for dragon armor). Sometimes I also have two one hand weapons, for dual wielding, or one and a shield (not sure why I bring these things, I almost never need them). On top of that I carry the most valuable loot, to sell or store for later use.

My houses tend to hold a lot of stuff!

  9. Hi people.

@The Blackangel beat me to it, but I of course have to post some Arch Enemy too!

Then there's Vader. Polish guys who probably eat babies and other evil things. 😄

And who doesn't love some Iron Maiden?! My favourite t-shirt has Eddie on it of course!

@LadyDay you're a touch off. Arch Enemy is black metal. Six Feet Under, now there is a death metal band. Chris Barnes is awesome there. Cannibal Corpse was good during the Chris Barnes years, but when he left I was done. Some other bands you might like are Dimmu Borgir, Marduk, Them, Cradle Of Filth, Deicide, Broken Hope, and Kreator to name just a few. My all time favorite band will always be Disturbed, but there's others I like too.

I'm not super strong on the exact differences in sound between melodic death and black metal, but you might be right. I've listened to it since I was a teenager, but I was never exactly a musician myself. I went to an Arch Enemy concert last week, and it was awesome, so that rekindled my love for them. I was on a complete high from the performance of Alissa White-Gluz, hence why that's the band that came to mind. I know and love most of the bands you mention and must say you have great taste! I don't know Marduk, Them or Broken Hope, but will check them out since you're spot on with the others. I get why you like Disturbed.

I could be picked up with with Dimmu Borgir too! 😄

  11. I've never actually played console, I was born of the PC master race. 😄

I played Commander Keen back in the late 90s, when I was but a wee sprout, but otherwise I didn't really play any video games until The Sims 2 came out in 2004. Then in 2009 or 2010 I started playing a couple of first person shooters with a friend (Left4Dead, Borderlands and a couple more I can't remember) and we played some Portals too. Since then I've played The Sims 3 and 4 and I've played Skyrim a lot. Right now I'm building shit in Planet Zoo. I miss having a best friend to shoot baddies with though (or club them over the head with a melee weapon or whatever)! In other words, I like my PC. I feel comfortable with mouse and keyboard and I like having the screen right in front of my face (there's, like, 3 meters from my couch to my ancient tv).

  12. Do people actually use pick up lines? Since the 90s? People have always approached me with more normal human interaction. Level playing field, nobody playing an active or passive role. That is if I haven't hunted them down first. Muahaha!

So I guess my pick up line was "Who likes Rammstein?"

Pfft. If you want to pick me up, and make it stick for a decade, you have to go death metal. Say "who likes Arch Enemy?" and you'll have me wrapped around your finger! 😄 (Fortunatelhy my partner of 12 years is a metal head too. Though at the night we met we (somewhat drunkenly) danced to something as soft and romantic as "sweet child of mine" and since he's 15 years older than me, and I was only 21, that song made sense and stuck with us, so I still go all soft and remember that faithful Christmas party 12 years ago when I hear it. That's how we picked each other up.).

I don't think you stepped on any toes? Great example, too! I forgot about the whole Talos issue in Skyrim. On the whole, I sided Imperial, but that was the one point where I completely empathized with the Stormcloaks.

    Good. 🙂

Yes, that's one of the brilliant, and infuriating, things in Skyrim. There's no obvious good or bad side to side with.

  14. I don't find caring for a Sims needs particularly stressful, but that might be because I've played it so much. I know my sister finds that it's suddenly become stressful since she switched from PC to Playstation, which I find weird. Can it somehow be harder on console??? Anyway, it's the only game I've used cheats for, though not out of some posh idea that that's a bad thing. It depends on what people find fun. In the Sims I've sometimes used money cheats, depending on the story. The thing is, if you want to make enough money to buy a decent house, you'll never get there just by getting to the top of a fancy career. You have to either grind and grind on painting or writing or you have to, like, have a store that specializes in only selling one very expensive violin. In the real world people don't buy houses like that, they take a loan. And sometimes I don't feel like playing the story of grinding for cash, sometimes I want to focus on other aspects, like a career. So sometimes in my "stories" I decide that they happened to have a rich uncle or that they took out a loan for the house or whatever. It's not a goal oriented game, it's a story oriented game. However, it makes a difference that it's a single player game, so I'm not effecting the game of others. I figure if I was cheating to make myself super powerful in a multi-player game, where others were effected, that would make a difference! I also think that some games would get pretty boring if you cheated your way through the levels, but to each their own.

I like that in Planet Zoo, the simulation game I'm currently hooked on, there's franchise mode, where you have to make a zoo run financially, and then there's sandbox mode, where you have infinite cash and can just be creative building whatever your heart desires. I figure that's a bit like using cheats in The Sims.

If someone gets all butt hurt about you being an Atheist, then fuck them. There's nothing wrong with Atheism. Shank them and walk on.

Thanks 🙂 You're right! On my to do list is becoming less scared of people. Shanking might be a bit too much, but yelling "fuck you" and walking off might be achievable. 😄 My family are all fundamentalist Christians, so I'm used to walking on eggshells. Fortunately I've got my boyfriend and friends, who are all just as godless as me.

When it comes to religion in games, I think it's good when it's a reasonable part of the story. Preferably a made up religion. It looks like this Jesus game doesn't just use it as a part of it's universe, it preaches Christianity to the kids who play it (I'm focusing on the young gamers, who are more impressionable than adults). Children should learn about religion, all religions, not just one, and they shouldn't be preached to. I think fantasy religions in games, like the religion of the Stormcloaks in Skyrim, teaches kids about religion as part of humanity, and I think that's positive.

...mentioning not being a fan of religious games or religion.

Oh dear. I hope I didn't step on anybody's toes. Religion is always a touchy subject. And I'm always afraid of mentioning my atheism because of the stigma and not wanting to hurt any feelings.

The only religion in games I've come across is the Norse type religion of the Stormcloaks in Skyrim. I thought that worked well and I enjoyed it.

  17. I'm not a fan of religion. But I imagine most aren't going to take this game very serious anyway. And if anything I imagine my deeply religious family would find it very inappropriate.

I'm mostly just rolling my eyes and having a chuckle.
