Sorry you're not feeling well Stacey, I hope it gets better soon.
I don't tend to play games when I'm feeling like this. I tend to draw or read or watch TV. If I do play a game it tends to just be whatever I've been playing at the moment anyway. Or The Sims 4. Comfort in the familiar.

LadyDay got a reaction from StaceyPowers in How much gear are you usually carrying in Skyrim?
I'm a Skyrim hoarder too! In the very beginning, until I get a house for storage and a companion to carry shit I tend to have a full inventory and then drop the least important/heaviest whenever I fill up completely. Come to think of it I almost always do that, since I bring the valuable loot I can carry.
I usually have the set of armor I'm wearing, two dual hand weapons (I tend to specialize in two hand weapons, so I have the one I use and a backup), a bow and arrows, magic robes, jewelry for enhancing various things, all the healing potions and lock picks I've found and some magica potions. Then there are the things I carry until I can use or store it, like stuff I've picked up for selling when I need money, ore when I've just mined, dragon bones and scales when I've just slain a dragon (to use for dragon armor). Sometimes I also have two one hand weapons, for dual wielding, or one and a shield (not sure why I bring these things, I almost never need them). On top of that I carry the most valuable loot, to sell or store for later use.
My houses tend to hold a lot of stuff!

The people in Skyrim only ever seem to eat bread, so their probably all constipated.

Arch Enemy are definitely a death metal band. Well, melodic death metal to be more precise. In the vain of In Flames, At The Gates and Scar Symmetry. Still, like that selection, especially Kreator and Dimmu Borgir and Disturbed. I've never heard "Them" (to whomever it was that came up that band name, haha, very funny) and "Broken Hope". I'll have to check them out.

EDIT: Probably should continue this in this thread before this goes off-topic.

Do people actually use pick up lines? Since the 90s? People have always approached me with more normal human interaction. Level playing field, nobody playing an active or passive role. That is if I haven't hunted them down first. Muahaha!
Pfft. If you want to pick me up, and make it stick for a decade, you have to go death metal. Say "who likes Arch Enemy?" and you'll have me wrapped around your finger! 😄 (Fortunatelhy my partner of 12 years is a metal head too. Though at the night we met we (somewhat drunkenly) danced to something as soft and romantic as "sweet child of mine" and since he's 15 years older than me, and I was only 21, that song made sense and stuck with us, so I still go all soft and remember that faithful Christmas party 12 years ago when I hear it. That's how we picked each other up.).

I don't find caring for a Sims needs particularly stressful, but that might be because I've played it so much. I know my sister finds that it's suddenly become stressful since she switched from PC to Playstation, which I find weird. Can it somehow be harder on console??? Anyway, it's the only game I've used cheats for, though not out of some posh idea that that's a bad thing. It depends on what people find fun. In the Sims I've sometimes used money cheats, depending on the story. The thing is, if you want to make enough money to buy a decent house, you'll never get there just by getting to the top of a fancy career. You have to either grind and grind on painting or writing or you have to, like, have a store that specializes in only selling one very expensive violin. In the real world people don't buy houses like that, they take a loan. And sometimes I don't feel like playing the story of grinding for cash, sometimes I want to focus on other aspects, like a career. So sometimes in my "stories" I decide that they happened to have a rich uncle or that they took out a loan for the house or whatever. It's not a goal oriented game, it's a story oriented game. However, it makes a difference that it's a single player game, so I'm not effecting the game of others. I figure if I was cheating to make myself super powerful in a multi-player game, where others were effected, that would make a difference! I also think that some games would get pretty boring if you cheated your way through the levels, but to each their own.
I like that in Planet Zoo, the simulation game I'm currently hooked on, there's franchise mode, where you have to make a zoo run financially, and then there's sandbox mode, where you have infinite cash and can just be creative building whatever your heart desires. I figure that's a bit like using cheats in The Sims.

    Good. 🙂
Yes, that's one of the brilliant, and infuriating, things in Skyrim. There's no obvious good or bad side to side with.

Thanks 🙂 You're right! On my to do list is becoming less scared of people. Shanking might be a bit too much, but yelling "fuck you" and walking off might be achievable. 😄 My family are all fundamentalist Christians, so I'm used to walking on eggshells. Fortunately I've got my boyfriend and friends, who are all just as godless as me.
When it comes to religion in games, I think it's good when it's a reasonable part of the story. Preferably a made up religion. It looks like this Jesus game doesn't just use it as a part of it's universe, it preaches Christianity to the kids who play it (I'm focusing on the young gamers, who are more impressionable than adults). Children should learn about religion, all religions, not just one, and they shouldn't be preached to. I think fantasy religions in games, like the religion of the Stormcloaks in Skyrim, teaches kids about religion as part of humanity, and I think that's positive.

LadyDay got a reaction from StaceyPowers in Ways gaming has helped/harmed you as a person?
I think games make me more productive in life in general. I spend a lot of time at home (due to illness) and I feel like games make me a more active participant in life, while TV makes me feel like life is just passing me by. I get more energy for doing housework, going for walks, meeting people etc when I've been playing a game than when I've been on the couch. I think it's because I'm and active participator in games, it somehow feels like I've "done something" or "accomplished something"., giving me a little boost to my self-esteem, which in turn gives me energy and stamina for participating in real life too.
I don't think games have harmed me.

As you say, I'll obviously say The Sims 4 is one of them. But right now I'm completely hooked on Planet Zoo. That is a beautiful and all around awesome game! In the style of the old Zoo Tycoon, from the same creators, but in a modern way. I highly recommend it! At least for people who like building things and micro-management.The graphics are amazing! You do need a pretty hefty computer to be able to run it though. I had to get a new one! (it was needed anyway, my old one was 10 years old and simply couldn't run newer games. ).

LadyDay got a reaction from StaceyPowers in Why have games moved toward an adult market?
Could it also be a factor that adults simply have more money to spend on games than kids do and thus become a target market? Sure, parents spend money on games for their kids too, but most kids either get them for Christmas and birthday, or save up for them from their allowance, so as not to get spoiled, while adults pretty much can buy all the games they want.  And then there's a big chunk of adults who don't have any kids to spoil, so they only spend their money on games for themselves (I don't have kids, which means more time for games and therefor ultimately more games bought than if I had a kid taking up my time).

LadyDay got a reaction from StaceyPowers in Relaxing, low pressure games with focus on exploring and/or building?
I would say an obvious one is The Sims. Relaxing, intricate building, nothing too challenging to rage quit over, nothing unexpected, at least unless you purposefully intend it to happen.

We all scored as I had guessed.
I think my secondary psychopathy is lower than average because my OCD makes me cautious/paranoid/careful. I think my primary psychopathy is higher because I have empathy deficits, especially with ToM, and cultivated survival adaptations.
@LadyDay Interesting self-analysis. I have some of those same traits. Seems some of us are trained pretty effectually through socialization during childhood to consider ourselves to be of reduced worth compared to others. I've been working to train myself to remember that I am a person too. Always remember, you count just as much as anyone else :)

LadyDay reacted to Shagger in Will it run Planet Zoo well? (I know nothing about computer-parts)
    I looked at the requirements...

... to find a surprisingly demanding game here.

Regardless, you should be OK with what you have posted as the spec's your computer, but I would recommend, for future proofing sake, to consider a stronger GPU, maybe the 2060 or a 1070 if you can afford it. It's just you have strong CPU would be better paired with a better GPU than a 1060 imo.

You score for primary psychopathy was higher than 5.51% of people who have taken this test.
You score for secondary psychopathy was higher than 12.67% of people who have taken this test.
Seems I'm not a psychopath at all. Maybe some of my angelic ways are because I'm afraid that people might dislike me if I act, or even think, in a selfish fashion? And I lack self esteem a lot, so I ascribe other people more value than myself.

LadyDay got a reaction from StaceyPowers in What games reveal about player morality?
I think that one has to be careful judging peoples morality based on their behavior in computer games. We all commit the ultimate moral crime, killing, in computer games. Sometimes even pixelated representations of humans. I don't believe that everybody who plays Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty or whatever have questionable morality in real life. I also don't think that those who are entertained by torturing and killing characters in The Sims, where it isn't a premise of the game,  or unneccesarily killing non-enemies in Skyrim or GTA or whatever, have questionable morals. In general I don't think gamers are less moral people than others, despite constantly killing characters in an imagined world. When we play a game we create a character in our mind, a character that isn't us, we don't become the character, we tell ourselves a story. I think it's just a case of finding different stories interesting. Just like people who enjoy watching slasher horror movies don't like watching real life brutal murder.
Of cause there exists the occasional sociopath, @The Blackangel even admits to being one, who just don't have a sense of empathy, but I don't think their actions in video games are particularly connected to their lacking empathy. They might as well manipulate real life people as video game characters. Correct me if I'm wrong @The Blackangel? But maybe some take it out on video game characters rather than real humans, because they know on an intellectual level that taking it out on real humans might lead to themselves being punished? My point is, I don't think there are a noticeably higher percentage of sociopaths/psychopaths among gamers than among non-gamers.
I also don't think that people lose their sense of morality by playing violent video games.
    That's my two cents 🙂

Of the ones you mention, micro transactions and lack of single player games are the ones I am most concerned about. I want my games to myself, or play them with friends, I don't want strangers in my game. And micro transactions I simply won't do. Period. I don't want to lose track of how much money I'm spending on a game and I don't like feeling like I'm constantly being milked for money. I'll happily buy proper packs of DLC to a game I love, but I refuse to pay little things constantly in order to progress properly in the game!

Obviously I want The Sims 5. But that's pretty certain to happen either way. I don't think EA is going to end such a profitable game series any time soon. Then I of course want The Elder Scrolls VI. But again, there's no doubt that will happen. And I think a new Left4Dead would be fun (They have a lot of humor and zombies. Everybody loves that!).
