North America has its first video game union at Vodeo Games

Recommended Posts

The team at Vodeo Games decided to start their own union, and I think it's about time. The gaming industry is full of abuse from big time companies, and honestly it's time that more developers and producers be able to unionize to better protect themselves.

Now we just need to see other studios take the initiative and start their own unions.

Well it may backfire because often union systems don't go well with the profit systems.

The thing is, the gaming industry needs a union. So many studios push their developers to work long hours, and to do crunch to get a game done. I think it's fair to have a union out there to better protect the developers and other workers who are often screwed over by studios and publishers. Something has to be done, because there's been a slew of stories about how so many studios promote crunch. On top of that, developers don't get the best pay either.

Actually that's true; when a big corporation that's anti union like Amazon gets into the fray of the gaming world, they will use their resources to promote anti unionism. They have already shown that with a recent fake vote they had deciding whether or not to be unionized. During that vote they used intimidation of employees and bribed them with pay increases. So in every way, Amazon is a poison to the gaming industry.

In the age of outsourcing and remote work, good luck forming unions and trying to hold management hostage. That would work lol.
