VGR being Plagiarized (incompetently) by igamenews

Recommended Posts

NotFirst of all, full credit to @Heatman for bringing this to our attention in THIS thread.  The moderators did mention that if we want to continue to discuss it we should post a separate thread at that let that one back on topic so that's what I'm doing.

I've had my own peruse the content of Igamenews and the sheer lack of shame from these hacks is beyond belief!  Not only in reckoning is at least 80% of the posts Plagiarized from us here but it's done so poorly it's like their not even trying to hide it.  For example almost every "VGR Member of the Month"  has been copied (including the latest one) without the poll, votes or even altering the title!

As @Shagger point out, even the mods are at it!

These are but a few examples of hundreds, maybe thousands posts come from serval different members and it's clear posts have been getting copied from us for quite some time. Maybe this is just how this "forum" operates, but copying our threads to make thier forum look more active than it really is. I even found one thread that was a copy of the thread title, but then the topic itself was just a link to the thread copied on VGR.

I've discovered that it's not just us being plagiarized either. Check this out!

They just took the tite from Crunchyroll and posted it with the initial screenshot from the episode!

It is hysterical. I would consider contacting the website itself, but it's pretty clear to me they know exactly what they are doing. It appears they are at least not plagiarizing the journalism side (articles) of VGR as far as I can tell, but I suggest that @DC have look himself just in case, it is just the forum they're tipping off.

I have been here since February 2019 and I have always loved being a part of VGR which is why I look out for it in any way possible.

It was shocking to have discovered that and its why I never kept quiet because it's like them leaching off our efforts including @DCown here.

I don't know if it's possible to take any legal actions against them, I believe @DCand the mods here @Shaggerand Co. should know if it's possible.

I they are copying VGR's official published articles then yes, they are definitely liable.  Forum posts I'm not sure.

If all that they are doing is plagiarizing the forum as I suspect, then I don't believe there is much to say legally. Plagiarizing VGR's articles and journalism would be very different matter. Like I said in the other thread, I suspect that there are just trying to make thier forum look active when it isn't. It's pathetic, really, but given that almost none of thier threads have any replies, it obviously isn't working.

It's definitely worth looking into.  I have just found an user on this forum who is DEFINITELY plagiarizing movie reviews and articles from  http://filmfestivals.com:

Original:

https://www.filmfestivals.com/blog/siraj_syed/attack_part_1_review_dawn_of_a_new_ira

igamenews:

Original, different writer:

Thanks for the information. I'll try to get in touch with that website's editor and let him/her know what's going on.

This just keeps getting better and better, I've now found a featured thread that is plagiarized from the first paragraph of an article from https://www.actualidadiphone.com!  This is streight up breaking the law now!

Original:

I think the board is just full of bots copying threads from this board, the weird thing is when you look at the members their join date is that they only logged in once and made over 5000 posts in a single day, i doubt any human is capable of posting that much posts in 24 hours.

Yeah thats what I was wondering myself, are these real people or just bots copying posts from other places? For example the post were they copied the member of the month thread I mean it says right there VGR, dont they read these things ? If someone was copying posts from other forums wouldnt be logical to read it first to make sure there is nothing related to the original forum ? Im starting to think these are just bots and not actual people.

I agree. It's a bot that scrapes community posts. These communities are inactive/dead, no real users or legitimacy. It's not worth our attention. If it was a legitimate community then I would file a DMCA. It's just not worth it.

I never knew there is a bot capable of doing that. It's unbelievable. But technically, it's someone that set up the bot for such function?

Right, someone had to set it up. It's just a spam forum with no real activity, therefore not worth a pursuit. This person could attempt to hack or cause damage to VGR if we pursue. I'm just not threatened by these knock off illegitimate communities tbh.

Alright then, if that's the case, it's better to let the sleeping dog lay down as it is.

I have observed bots logged in on the forum before without interacting with anything or posting anything. I suppose this is at least what some of them were doing. If they don't post anything, they know we'll likely do nothing about them. Clever, but since no living person seems to paying this forum any mind, It hasn't really helped them much. What waste of time. Us going to the forum to see all this today is probably the most traffic they've ever had. You may as well etch your company logo onto a dog turd for the worth thier ad-space is worth, what's the point in any of this?
