Travel Through VR?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if this will ever be an option, or if the idea has even been floated by some developers? While nowhere near the experience of doing it in person, there are tons of sites and cities that I would love to visit. But unfortunately, I most likely never will see them firsthand.

So if it's possible, I would definitely be 1000x more interested in getting a really good headset.

People travel to other cities through VR, so, it is very much possible to travel to another country of your choice if you decide to go VR. I really don't know the means you'll use and travel, maybe the normal route as in real-life.

Here are some traveling games on Oculus. https://www.oculus.com/blog/virtual-vacation-11-vr-apps-and-films-that-let-you-travel-the-world-from-home/

I think Wander let's you go anywhere on the world map and view satellite photos of the area and probably tourist photos. But I would like to walk, drive or fly around like a bird to view everything. I think they can integrate augmented reality for travel VR. That's where they can get specialists to go visit areas, make videos of everything including inside buildings, and that can be used for the VR experience. Some traveling games go in depth in a few locations, but they need it for every notable location in the world including scenic drives, beaches, landscapes. It can be done. They could have some kind of program to work with travel agents and share videos they make from all over the world and in every city. That way, everyday you get new material added to the VR travel database. Yeah, I invented that just now. Cut me in on the earnings when they start doing it.

Oh yeah, I've heard of museums and other locations offering VR options for those who are unable to travel or can't due to not having the money. Hell I think they've even done live concerts, and other such events for VR.

I found this article doing a quick search:

https://www.lifewire.com/virtual-reality-tourism-4129394

It lists virtual places you can visit. These seem to be fake virtual worlds, with an exception for the Realities one they list, as that looks to be about showing real places in VR.

And I found this site that looks kinda promising for VR travel - https://www.travelworldvr.com/

I rather travel in reallife then acting if I'm not traveling. You can use your VR in microsoft flight simulator and it feels real. I have not got a VR anyway. Driving around California in American Truck Simulator can be fun or ETS2 🙂

Let's see what the furture gives us

Sure, most of us would rather see these places in person, but that's easier said than done. Not everyone can travel the world or see places in person. For me, I simply can't afford to travel all the time, if I did I would probably be all over the world by now, but I don't have the money to support something like that. So, with VR, being able to see some of those places, would be nice I think.
