Do you think Mobile gaming will die?

Recommended Posts

I don't really think mobile gaming is going to be a popular thing of the future. I'll admit, I do have games for passing time when I'm on the go but I never feel the need to be competitive or take gaming seriously on my phone. These days it also feels like all these strategy games like CoC are all the same and in order to win you've got to take your wallet out.

Does anyone here actually play a competitive mobile game or get into something? Does anyone want to make some fun predictions about the future of mobile gaming?

I think mobile gaming still has a huge market in casual gamers, so no, I doubt it's going to die. But hopefully we'll see less of those "pay2win" type of games.

Yes and no.

No, in that it’s making plenty of money, there’s plenty of developers, and plenty of new games coming out.

Yes, however, there’s a super-saturation of developers jumping on the bandwagon. While there’s more money in total, it’s being stretched pretty thin so that even devs with great games are basically being pushed out of the market just due to the sheer volume being produced.

This is probably not a long term “death” by any means, though. We’ll probably see a die-off of a bunch of smaller companies and single-dev indie startups when it becomes impossible to ignore the fact that most of them won’t make any profits and it’s not the cash cow they seem to think it’ll be.

When that happens, you’ll see a correction on its own where the more competent developers are able to take advantage of the situation.

Things like candy crush and other such games, however, are not going to go away unless they’re made illegal. They’re specifically designed to make abusive use of the very tiny portion of the population with severe gambling addictions and so on. Less than 1% of their player base makes up for over 90% of their profits, and when you consider that some of them are making millions per month, that should become suddenly very worrying when you realize what that means the average person in that 1% range is paying out.

Basically, regulation of harmful games which are designed explicitly to milk a very small amount of addictive personality customers for unhealthy amounts, will wind up killing that portion of the market off, which would mean fewer devs expecting to be the next big thing, and the market itself would decrease drastically in scale of production… but it would be higher quality games on average.

As it is, it will have a “small” death in that the more people that enter the market, the less sustainable it will be for most of them and you’ll see a crash similar to what happened back in the dot-com crash in the 90’s. It won’t kill off everything by any means, but it’ll change the way the games are made substantially.

I don't think that mobile gaming will die. There are plenty of successful games like Clash of Clans, Clash Royale and much more where people spend a lot of money for micro-transactions.

Mobile gaming dying? No, I think it will only continue to grow and expand as more and more people get mobile devices, and as the technically behind these devices evolves.

Mobile gaming may one day become less and less popular but in terms of it dying out completely, I don't think that will ever be the case. Not every gamer is able to be home and play a game and for times when you are out and about and unable to sit at home and play games, you can always play them on the go. I always find playing small puzzle games on my phone when I am travelling takes the boredom away from how long the journey may be. Mobile gaming has grown and developed dramatically over the years and with the way technology is developing and how fast it's developing it will only be a matter of time before we see more and more games that we can play on mobile devices. Mobile gaming definitely seems to be around for the foreseeable future!

Mobile gaming is at its all-time peak right now. It won't be dying out anytime soon, and probably not at all as long as cell phones are around.

People use their cell phones, usually games, to pass time. And yes, I play a bunch of games on my phone. It's just more convenient than an actual console.

As long as we get bored in the toilet or on the way to work, mobile gaming won't die! At least not before some kind of compact console releases, which seems unlikely. The free model with microtransactions works perfectly and there are many notable games out there so I hope it won't die 😄

No, lets look at the facts. There are lot of companies which are in mobile gaming and developers. Every year, mobile gaming industrys bring back millions of dollars in turn over/profit. The Games market hit 37 billion this year in profits, read more here. Personally, mobile video games serve me with ease of access and I can play them on the go, on the toilet, travelling, college and much more. Keeps me entertained while I'm out and about.

AH nah. Mobile gaming will not die out any time soon, so long as the way that mobile devices are not changed too far from what they look like now. If they were to change, then I can see them dying off pretty drastically.

I don't think that it will die out really. It will never be as popular as PC or even console gaming. But there will always be a portion of the gaming sector that is for mobile users because not everyone can afford an expensive PC or console to play games on. Plus, games like Clash Royale are addictive and people will always love playing those types of games on their phones and on the go.

Definitely not. The community increases day by day, especially since mobile games is so accessible for any generation. A mobile is a must nowadays, so why not implement gaming on it?
