Trends that marked this generation

Recommended Posts

Saw this on another website.

There are 3 trends that marked this generation of gaming:
-Streaming (Twitch)
-Micro Transactions (Damn you EA you ruined Starwars)
-Battle royale

What are your thoughts about the trends of this generation or is there another trend missing on this list or which do you think will be the trends of the future ?

Battle royale definitely. I try to avoid micro transactions as you know it can be pretty much draining to the pocket. I also don't think twitch may last longer if they allow chest revealing streams with donation option.

Online gaming. Everything is online. I see all physical games, and consoles being phased out. Everything will be digital downloads. It's already started. It won't be long before that fully takes effect. There may be a box for a while, where you download any system you want, then download the games. But that will only be temporary before everything is purely digital in some other, more "advanced" form.

Streaming platforms are definitely here to stay and Micro-transactions are getting progressively worse - Just take a look at what's happening with Apex Legends new update.

I think except Stadia, I think cloud gaming may take off in it's own way. I am not sure though how monetization and game ownership may work out but it looks like a future.

I'm not sure it will have - not in its current form at least. The whole game ownership thing is putting off a lot of people in addition to a whole host of other drawbacks.
