If you are a member of PlayStation Plus, then you are probably waiting right now with bated breath to find out which games are going to be free to play this August. During July, we’ve been able to enjoy titles like Heavy Rain and Absolver. Here are our free Playstation Plus games predictions for August 2018.
1. The Surge
If you’re a fan of Lords of the Fallen, you will love The Surge. This sci-fi action RPG from Deck13 Interactive is already available at a significant discount. We wouldn’t be surprised at all to see it free in August for PlayStation Plus members. The game takes you to a unique dystopian setting where you can enhance powerful exoskeletons through a comprehensive crafting system to battle your enemies.
2. Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition
The original Bulletstorm by People Can Fly came out clear back in 2011, but the title is fresh on many gamers’ minds thanks to the Full Clip edition which released just last year for PlayStation 4. With enhanced graphics and a boost to frame-rate, it looks and plays beautifully. That would have been enough, but the addition of six new Echo maps and a new Overkill campaign mode makes it an even more amazing remaster. Let’s hope it makes the free list for August.
3. Nidhogg
If there’s going to be a side-scroller available for free in August, we’re betting it is going to be Nidhogg. With its ninja-style action and tactical game play, it is a perfect party game.
4. Shiren The Wanderer
If you enjoy games with a cool retro vibe, you’ll love the rogue-like Shiren The Wanderer. It’s a challenging title which lets you battle your way through procedurally-generated dungeons.
5. Killzone: Shadow Fall
This title from Guerrilla Games is one of our top guesses for August’s free games list on PlayStation Plus. For starters, Sony is the publisher, so that would streamline inclusion. For another thing, it wouldn’t be the first Killzone game to be free for subscribers. In April 2015, Killzone: Mercenary for PS Vita was featured.
Another reason that Killzone: Shadow Fall is a likely candidate is that it has previously been made free to subscribers in Japan. That was last July, so we kind of thought it might happen this July here. Since it still hasn’t, maybe it is planned for August.
6. Overcooked
In terms of indie games, Overcooked seems like a good bet for this August. It released two years ago in August, and it has been a very popular game. Sony has previously offered huge discounts on it, so putting it up for free for a month makes a lot of sense—especially in light of The Festive Seasoning and The Lost Morsel expansion packs.
These reasons alone would make Overcooked a smart wager for next month’s free games list, but there is another reason to consider too, and that is the forthcoming August 7th release date for Overcooked 2. What better time is there to let gamers try the first title free? It could give Overcooked 2 sales a huge boost.
7. Volume
Finally, one more indie title that might make the free games list for August is the simple and stylish Volume. Being as the game has been available to subscribers for only $5 in the past, it doesn’t seem like it’d be a big leap to make it free for the month.
We’ll get to find out whether any of these games will be available to play for free on PlayStation Plus on Wednesday, July 25th. Usually the announcement shows up between 4:30 and 5:00 pm BST/11.30-12.00 EST on the PlayStation Blog. Look for it then!
