Sadly, Gamers Won’t Be Able to Drive Any Flying Cars in Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 looks set to allow players to do a whole lot in its world; from cybernetic enhancement to hacking and its skill system, Cyberpunk players should have no shortage of things to do. Vehicles are also likely to play a major part. However, fans may be disappointed to learn that among the different Cyberpunk 2077 vehicles, there won’t be any cars that players can fly.

Vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077

As illustrated in the Cyberpunk 2077 story trailer, vehicles are very prevalent throughout Night City. Much as Geralt could call upon Roach to traverse the world of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, V will probably be able to call upon a variety of vehicles to get around the setting. The story trailer gave players a good sense of what those vehicles will be; from futuristic cars and bikes to the many flying cars traversing between the high-rise buildings.

Cyberpunk's Flying Cars Won't Be Controllable

However, while there may be plenty of flying cars, they won’t actually be controllable. Speaking with Rock Paper Shotgun, Maciej Petras, the game’s lead cinematic director stated; “When it comes to AVs [Aerial Vehicles], yes, there will be moments when you will be able to fly AVs but you’re not going to be able to control it because if you refer to the source material. AVs are like the most expensive things in the Cyberpunk 2020 world.”

While players won’t be able to fly any cars, they will have a selection of vehicles to choose from. Level designer Max Pears reportedly stated that driving will never be on rails in Cyberpunk 2077. He also said that motorbikes would feature in the game, in addition to the cars which appeared in the trailer; “[Cars are] one of the ways you’re going to traverse [Night City]. It’s not just through cars. There’s bikes as well. It’s an important thing to make that feel good.”
