Gamers Suggest Deactivating PS5 Rest Mode

Have you had problems with PS5 rest mode? If so, you are not the only one. In fact, users on Twitter, Reddit, and forums are reporting issues. It appears that the safest course of action might be to switch the mode off entirely for now. Let’s take a look at some of what gamers are saying.

PS5 Rest Mode May Be Glitching

Here is an example of a complaint about rest mode:

Jeff Gerstmann on Twitter explains, “Seems like putting a PS5 into rest mode while Spider-Man Remastered is running crashes the whole system, forcing that “repair your external drive” process when you start back up. At least that’s how it’s been for me the few times I’ve done that today. Also every time I’ve had the PS5 go through that external drive repair sequence, it ends up on a black screen. I have to hit the power button on the console itself to force it into rest mode, then it comes back up and asks me to file an error report, then boots normally.”

You can find additional complaints about PS5 rest mode on this thread on Reddit. Some users do not seem to have any issues with rest mode, but plenty of others do. In fact, multiple users suggest that one turn rest mode off to prevent issues.

Also, a user on ResetEra posted, “I was at gamestop today picking up my ps5 games. The guy cashing me out was saying NOT to put the ps5 in rest mode. That putting it in rest mode causes it to brick…….Now I am concerned so have been shutting it off when I am done. What do you guys think? Anyone bricked because of rest mode?” Quite a few users replied saying they have not had problems with rest mode at all, and urging caution against alarmism.

Should there be any further news about the supposed rest mode issues, we will let you know in our  PlayStation news section. Until then, we advise you avoid alarmism, but still embrace caution.
