5 Games That Are Similar to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has something for everyone (provided you can get past the lack of single-player). With traditional multiplayer, a new battle royale mode and Zombies, this year’s entry in the long-running series contains multitudes. It also contains many gameplay elements that will be familiar to fans of other popular AAA games. Here’s our list of five games that are most similar to Black Ops 4.

Overwatch

Giddy up.

With 10 specialists boasting different abilities and gear, hardcore Overwatch players may well find something to love in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. While Overwatch’s roster of characters have much more, well, character, Black Ops 4’s specialists let players approach combat in slightly different ways, while keeping the familiar FPS gameplay intact.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Let’s be clear: playing Ubisoft’s latest open-world action RPG doesn’t feel anything like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. That said, Black Ops 4’s Zombies mode offers players the opportunity to time travel back to ancient Rome and take a voyage with the undead on the Titanic.

Assassin’s Creed has long given history nuts the opportunity to explore gorgeous historical settings. While significantly scaled down, Black Ops 4 offers something similar.

Fortnite

While there are some big differences, fans of Epic’s monster hit should feel right at home in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s “Blackout” mode. “Blackout” may be missing Fortnite’s colorful storytelling and building elements, but the loop—drop, loot, shoot, repeat—is largely the same.

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds

“Blackout” may well be a revelation for PUBG players. With a stable framerate, impressive graphics and a compelling sense of speed, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 improves on much of what made Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds a genre-defining smash in the first place.

With a similarly grounded, military-style approach to combat, PUBG fans should feel comfortable diving into “Blackout.”

Every Call of Duty Game From the Past Decade

Most importantly, not much has changed in the Call of Duty formula in the past 10 years. Despite the some big additions and subtractions, this is largely the game that fans have loved since 2007. I’ve put more time into Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 than any game in the series since Black Ops, and I can safely say that I feel right at home.

CrOwD Pleaser

With the team-based gameplay of Overwatch, the zany historical fiction of Assassin’s Creed, the battle royale mode of Fortnite and PUBG and the Zombies and multiplayer components that series fans have come to love, Black Ops 4 is sure to be a crowd-pleasing entry.
