Gearbox Nerfs FL4K Again in Latest Borderlands 3 Patch

It has only been a week since the last Borderlands 3 patch, but thus far, it seems that Gearbox’s strategy for patching their latest game is to release numerous small patches and hotfixes, rather than larger, less frequent updates. As such, another new patch was recently released, and it includes changes for two of the game’s Vault Hunters; FL4K and Moze. Interestingly, it is the second patch in a row to nerf FL4K, further reducing the effectiveness of one of their key abilities.

Changes to FL4K and Moze in the Latest Borderlands 3 Patch

This new set of Borderlands 3 hotfixes includes a variety of general fixes. For instance, the Hollow Point Guardian Rank skill will no longer cause damage to allies or yourself. There are also some functionality fixes and improvements, such as fixing a bug causing bank storage not to save correctly. However, the most noticeable changes are those which were made to the Vault Hunters. According to Gearbox; “Our goal is to make sure all Three Action Skills for each Vault Hunter are viable, but we have noticed some skills have been outperforming others. To encourage more diversity, we made some adjustments to FL4K and Moze this week.”

Borderlands 3 Patch Nerfs FL4K

Most of these changes have been made to FL4K. Their Rakk Attack! action skill does now have a 100% guaranteed effect chance, which is actually an improvement. However, other skills have not fared so well. For instance, the Leave No Trace skill, which returns ammunition to the user, now has a re-trigger delay of 2 seconds, as it was apparently returning more ammo than intended. While this is a considerable blow, Gearbox did increase the stat bonus from the Barbaric Yawp skill to 100%.

The studio also made some changes to FL4K’s pets which don’t affect the Vault Hunter’s power, but should prevent them from interrupting gameplay. “We felt that FL4K’s pets were demanding too much attention,” the studio explains; “which was interfering with players trying to stand still for any length of time, so we disabled the ability for them to move you around”. This means that the pets shouldn’t interfere with their owners while they’re standing at vending machines or trying to loot.

Disabling Moze’s Infinite Grenades Exploit

Moze only has one change in this patch, although it is significant. Her Means of Destruction skill now has a re-trigger delay of 2 seconds. Previously, players had been using this skill to accrue an effectively infinite supply of grenades. However, it seems that the skill wasn’t actually meant to work like that! “Infinite Grenades is not an intentional build for Moze,” explains Gearbox; “even if it is hilarious. To lower the power (and spam) of this build, a re-trigger delay has been added to the grenade portion of Means of Destruction.”
