God of War Celebrates One Year Anniversary With New Trailer

To mark the one-year anniversary of the latest God of War, which was unarguably one of the most successful games of 2018 (and indeed, of all time), Santa Monica Studios has released a brand-new trailer showcasing its many accolades. The trailer marks the start of a week-long celebration and an Anniversary Sale.

The One-Year Anniversary God of War Trailer and Sale

One year ago, God of War launched to universal critical acclaim, smashing sales records both for the franchise and for a PlayStation exclusive. After a year, it’s hard to point to any game that performed better than God of War in 2018. As the new trailer highlights, the title has won over 190 different Game of the Year awards, including at the Game Awards themselves. The game also set a massive new precedent for the gaming industry; demonstrating that a powerfully-written, single-player game with no DLC, multiplayer, or micro-transactions could still be wildly successful. It seems likely that gamers will start to see more games of its ilk in the near future. Indeed, the recent announcement of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order could be one of the first major examples.

To mark one year since the launch of God of War, the game is going on sale. The Anniversary Sale gives PlayStation gamers a chance to get the title for 40% off. The game is currently available for just £23.99 on the PlayStation Store, down from £39.99. It’s currently unknown how long the game will be on sale, but it could just be a week; the same duration as the game’s anniversary celebration.

“In honour of you, our fans,” writes Shannon Studstill, head of Santa Monica Studios, on the PlayStation Blog; “we’re starting a week-long celebration of the one-year anniversary of this God of War. I’m very happy to indulge you with a small token of appreciation.”

That token includes a new God of War Anniversary character PS4 avatar set, which will be available for free from today. Fans can also get a free PS4 dynamic theme. Both are available on the PlayStation Store, and you don’t need a copy of the game to download them.
