God of War Set to Reach 1 Billion Views on YouTube Faster Than Any Game Ever

God of War released on the 20th of April, earlier this year. Since then, thousands of videos featuring the game have been uploaded on YouTube. More importantly, those videos have been raking in views. If the game’s popularity continues, God of War is set to reach one billion views on YouTube faster than any game ever.

The data analyst website Matchmade has reported that in just one month, God of War accrued over 728 million views on YouTube. That means it only needs to amass another 272 million to reach 1 billion total views. If the current trend continues, it could easily reach that number during June, and even if things slow down, it is likely to reach it by July. In either case, it will have beaten the current record-holder.

God of War is About to Set a New Record for Views on YouTube

The Current Record

The current record for the fastest game to reach 1 billion total views on YouTube is held by Fortnite. Until March this year, Minecraft held the record. However, Fortnite surpassed the 2009 title by achieving 1 billion views in five months after its launch. It is worth noting that the game really started amassing views when its Battle Royale mode launched; two months after the game’s release.

God of War looks set to reach 1 billion views within 2-3 months. That will set a new record with a very healthy lead. Even considering Fortnite’s record from the launch of Battle Royale, God of War is very likely to surpass it. The game’s success has already set numerous records for sales and review scores both, despite being a PlayStation exclusive title. God of War sold over 5 million copies in its first month alone; it was the bestselling game throughout April on most market lists, displacing Far Cry 5, and was also the best-selling PlayStation exclusive of all time.

The game’s popularity looks likely to continue for the foreseeable future, all but guaranteeing the continuation of the series. The game’s creative director, Cory Barlog, has previously said that he has plans for at least five other possible followup games. No doubt fans will get to see plenty more God of War in the future.
