Gone Home Is Coming to the Nintendo Switch Next Week, Physical Version Eventually Coming

The indie darling that released exactly five years ago, Gone Home, is coming to the Nintendo Switch via the eShop on Aug 23 for the price of $19.99, The Fullbright Company and Annapurna Interactive announced today. In an interview with Variety, Steve Gaynor (co-founder of Fullbright) talks about the release of the game on Switch and why it’s still so important, even five years after the game’s initial launch:

“We are really excited to bring Gone Home to as much audience as we can. The Switch has been such a huge phenomenon as well as having such a diverse player-base, that we thought it would be exciting to put it on the platform and line that up with the five year anniversary.”

The short but intriguing story of Gone Home puts the players in the shoes of a girl named Katie, who returns home after being overseas to find that her family is gone and nowhere to be found. Considering that this was one of the first “walking simulators,” the gameplay revolves around examining objects around the house, solving puzzles, and just trying to piece together what exactly happened.

Gaynor continues: “Obviously tons of people still are not into what we make, but you can see ‘Gone Home’ has spoken to games like ‘Firewatch’ or even when you look at the non-combat exploration in ‘Uncharted 4’. There’s an element of being in a place and finding out stuff.”

Gone Home will be available for download on the eShop come Aug 23. iam8bit, a site based around video game collectibles, is working on releasing both a physical edition of the game and a vinyl based on the soundtrack.
