Today, a patch was released for Grand Theft Auto IV removing over 50 songs and adding some more in replacement. The news comes after the expiration of the licensing for many songs on the in-game radio stations for the game. Grand Theft Auto IV is almost 10 years old to the day – its 10 year anniversary is on April 29 – and remains one of the most wanted Rockstar titles to be brought back to current-generation consoles yet.
The game has many differences with the latest installment of the franchise, Grand Theft Auto V, which released almost 5 years ago in September 2013. Fans are divided whether or not the latest game missed out on features of IV, such as the more advanced melee combat and car physics. With the 10th anniversary coming up this Sunday, players are speculating whether a remastered Grand Theft Auto IV might make it, but each day makes it more and more unlikely – it’s more of a dream than a rumor at this point.
The game had little news around it until it was reported that the licenses of the music included in many of the in-game radio stations were going to expire this month, and as a result a patch would be sent out to replace or even remove those songs. It remains a mystery why Rockstar Games didn’t just renew the licensing, but today the patch released for PS3 and Xbox 360/One. The 7GB update is available now for both Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City.
