How to Beat God of War’s Kara Valkyrie

After completing God of War’s main story, there is still a lot of content to do in Santa Monica Studio’s latest title. The Valkyries are one of the biggest parts of that content; nine extremely challenging hidden bosses. Kara, the sixth Valkyrie, dwells in the River Pass.

After defeating her comrades, Eir, Geirdriful, Gondul, Gunnr, and Hildr, you should head to River Pass. Kara has a different style of combat to most of the other Valkyries. As a result, careful preparation is key to your chances of success. Ensure that your Runic attack and Spartan Rage meters are totally filled before you enter her arena, and as always, make sure that you bring a Resurrection Stone. Kara can quickly feel overwhelming, so having the insurance of a Resurrection Stone can be very valuable here.

For those players looking to complete the Odin’s Ravens collectibles set, look right when you enter Kara’s arena. There is a raven in an alcove, looking down on the area.

Fighting Kara

Unlike the fifth Valkyrie, Hildr, visibility is unlikely to be a problem here. Unfortunately, Kara has the ability to summon enemies throughout her arena. Although the enemies aren’t challenging, they can be distracting, especially in large numbers. Try to eliminate them often to prevent Kara from amassing too large a force at any one time.

When it comes to Kara herself, the Valkyrie is a threat both in melee and at ranged. If she hovers and dives at you while swinging her scythe, you can dodge, block, or use Atreus to knock her out of the sky. When she is on the ground, she will attack with her wings. This attack can be blocked. Her projectiles are similar to those used by previous Valkyries; she can hurl knife-like darts and yellow discs. The darts can be blocked relatively easily, as can the volleys of yellow discs. Beware, however. If her attack is telegraphed by a red circle then she is about to hurl a single large yellow disc which cannot be blocked.

Fortunately, Kara doesn’t have any hugely destructive, unblockable melee attacks. Once you have successfully slain the Valkyrie, you will be rewarded with Kara’s Helmet, an Epic item called the Talisman of the Realms, a Legendary enchantment called Heart of Midgard, and Asgardian Steel.
