How the Modern Warfare Vacant Map Differs From the Original

Among the latest batch of maps to come to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, along with Shipment, is Vacant; another returning classic from the past. Redesigned for the latest edition to the franchise, the Modern Warfare Vacant map should be familiar to any who know the original, but has a few tweaks and changes to better suit it to the current multiplayer.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Vacant Map

Although it came to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as part of the December update of Season One content, the Modern Warfare Vacant map isn’t totally new. The map actually features as a smaller part of Port; the large Ground War map which launched at the start of Season One. However, without the larger context of Port around it, Vacant is a little different.

Infinity Ward classifies Vacant as a medium-sized map, and the layout offers roughly equal amounts of interior and exterior spaces. This does potentially limit the effectiveness of certain aerial Killstreaks, for instance. However, skylights do allow these Killstreaks to affect more areas than it might first appear. Altogether, Vacant is divided into 16 zones, ranging from the shipping containers outside to the indoor storage and office spaces. The Coalition spawn in the former shipping container area. Meanwhile, the Allegiance spawn on the far side of the map, in the shipping and receiving warehouse area. Although this spawn is indoors, the skylights here make it as vulnerable to aerial Killstreaks as the Coalition spawn.

Of course, the layout remains much the same as its previous incarnations. However, the Modern Warfare Vacant map has a few new features, largely thanks to the game’s up-to-date mechanics. Windows can be used to move from area to area now, for example, while new perks offer strategies that weren’t possible in the past. Of course, new Killstreaks can also help level the playing field against players who know the map’s layout expertly well from prior experience.
