How to Beat God of War’s Olrun Valkyrie

There are nine Valkyries hidden throughout God of War. These extremely difficult secret bosses can be challenged after completing the main story, as part of the game’s expansive post-story content. Olrun is the seventh of these Valkyries, and she can be found in the realm of Alfheim.

After defeating her comrades, Eir, Geirdriful, Gondul, Gunnr, Hildr, and Kara, you should head for Alfheim to challenge Olrun. Like every Valkyrie boss-fight, patience and preparation are the keys to victory. Rushing in blindly is very unwise indeed. As such, you should aim to have filled your Spartan Rage and Runic attack meters before you enter Olrun’s arena. Similarly, always remember to bring a Resurrection Stone with you. Many Valkyries have unblockable attacks, so you never know when you might be caught off-guard.

If you are aiming to complete the Odin’s Ravens collectible set, take a moment when you enter the Alfheim arena. One of the hidden ravens can be spotted to your left, atop a branch just above the wall of the arena.

Fighting Olrun

Olrun is a particularly maneuverable and tricky opponent. On the ground, she will often attack by whirling her wings, and this combo ends with an unblockable strike. The wing attacks beforehand can be blocked, but be sure to dodge the final strike, which is telegraphed by a red circle. When she completes her chain of attacks she will be momentarily vulnerable to Kratos’ counterattacks. Olrun will also attack with a dash when she is on the ground. If she slides left before attacking, the dash will end with wing attacks that can be blocked. If she slides right, however, the dash ends with an unblockable stab.

Although Olrun is primarily a melee combatant, she does have projectile attacks. The Valkyrie will occasionally hurl bolts of black smoke, which can be blocked. Her deadliest attack is a rapid leap attack where she bounds across the arena and stomps down onto the ground. It can be difficult to anticipate where she will land she she jumps up out of sight. Be sure to dodge as soon as she jumps, because the attack lands almost instantly and does an enormous amount of damage. If you can dodge this, Olrun is left kneeling and exposed, and you have a perfect opening to attack.

Once Olrun is defeated, you can claim Olrun’s Helmet, the Epic enchantment Ivaldi’s Corrupted Mind, which is actually part of God of War’s Infinity War easter egg, Epic waist armour called the Waist Guard of the Valkyrie, and Asgardian Steel.
