Jim Ryan Has Some Awesome Feedback on the PlayStation 5 Controller Haptic Feedback Feature

Remember a couple of months ago when SIE President and CEO Jim Ryan made an announcement post wherein he talked a bit about the PS5 controller? You might recall that one of the features he commented on was called “haptic feedback.” Now, he has said a bit more about the PlayStation 5 controller haptic feedback feature.

What Jim Ryan Said About the PlayStation 5 Controller Haptic Feedback Feature

Currently, when you use the DualShock 4, there is a rumbling sensation which sometimes activates based on events in-game. While this feature can boost immersion, it is undeniably repetitive.

The new PlayStation 5 controller haptic feedback feature is supposed to add more realism and variety to the tactile feedback provided by the controller as you play games. So, the sensations you experience while playing a motorsport game will differ from those you experience when playing an FPS game or a fantasy RPG. And within each specific game, you might experience a broad variety of sensations as well, depending on the exact in-game events which are producing feedback.

Twinfinite reports that during an interview in Weekly Famitsu, Ryan talked about playing with the PS5 controller, and how much fun he had with the haptic feedback feature. Ryan said, “I actually tried it myself in a test version of Gran Turismo Sport. I was very surprised by the gameplay feel that was very different compared to the current DualShock 4. This is a very promising feature. Of course, with the improvement of the graphics over PS4, I think you will feel a great evolution as a gaming experience.”

We certainly are envious of the chance to try out the haptic feedback, and wonder what the PS5 controller is like overall. It is almost 2020 now, so we expect a lot more news to come in after the New Year. As it does, we will share all the latest updates with you in our PlayStation news section.
