Kingdom Hearts 3 Critical Mode Details Revealed

Square Enix just recently revealed some new details surrounding the Kingdom Hearts 3 Critical Mode. Set to release sometime in the near future as free DLC for players, this mode will seemingly radically change the gameplay. This is great for players who found the difficulty in the base game lacking and are wanting a change of pace for replaying the title.

These new details come via a GDC 2019 video interview from GameReactor (text via ResetEra) with Kingdom Hearts 3 Co-Director Tai Yasue. In the interview, they go over various details including, of course, the Kingdom Hearts 3 Critical Mode. Yasue actually gives us a good number of details surrounding the mode in the interview.

For starters, Yasue states that the team is working on doing the mode the “right way” rather than simply adjusting the stats of everything. This means that it will turn the Kingdom Hearts 3 Critical Mode into more of a technical-centric difficulty. Players will need to utilize literally everything at their disposal in order to overcome the challenge.

This means possibly needing to use the full array of gameplay options like cooking food at the Bistro, which isn’t necessarily required at all in the base difficulty for the game. In addition, the Kingdom Hearts 3 Critical Mode will have AI adjustments in order to make sure that the difficulty is fair to players. Last but not least, there will be new abilities.

It is currently not known what these new abilities will be but that this exciting news for players who have already beaten the game at least once. Yasue also notes that players will be able to beat this mode without leveling up at all but it will require technical prowess with blocking at the right time and countering enemies. Stay tuned for a Kingdom Hearts 3 Critical Mode release date.
