Knights of Light: Kickstarter Campaign Launched for Witcher-Inspired Indie RPG

Indie studio Rumbling Games has launched a new kickstarter campaign. The campaign is aiming to bolster funding for the development of “Knights of Light,” a new historical RPG inspired by The Witcher and Assassin’s Creed franchises. The studio, which is based in Egypt, is planning to set the game in the Middle East in the year 636 AD.

Knights of Light: A New Historical RPG

Knights of Light will be an open-world action RPG. The game’s development is self-funded by the indie studio, but the Kickstarter campaign aims to bolster that funding. Rumble Games is an independent studio. However, the company is an official PlayStation self-publisher, lending them a bit more weight behind their plans. At present, the game is being designed for a PC release, but could receive console ports post-launch. Indeed, given their status with Sony, a PlayStation port seems very likely.

Knights of Light is to be set around the Battle of Al Qadissiyah, which took place in 636 AD between the Islamic Caliphate and the Sassanian Empire. “The characters and bosses are based on actual historical figures,” Gadgets360 stated Ahmed Mousa, the co-founder of Rumbling Games, in an interview with ; “while the world and setting is more realistic much like Assassin’s Creed franchise. The theme and setting of the whole franchise will feature the Middle Eastern culture from the story to the gameplay elements. Even a simple cooking mechanic based on Middle Eastern recipes will be very interesting to the gaming community.”

The Kickstarter rewards for the Knights of Light Kickstarter vary greatly. The lowest reward, for a donation of $12 will net donors several 4K wallpapers. The highest, for a donation of $9,251, comes with a huge array of rewards. Among them are both physical and digital copies of the game (and planned DLC). Donors can also design their own custom NPC with custom dialogue and design their location. If that wasn’t enough; the Rumbling Games’ CEO will even provide those top donors with tickets and accommodation to visit the studio in Cairo and provide a 3-day tour in Egypt.
