Last Chance to Play in the Modern Warfare Free Access Weekend

The latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Free Access Multiplayer Weekend event began last Friday and has been live ever since, but its end is now in sight; gamers only have two more days to enjoy this extended opportunity to play the game’s multiplayer for free. In fact, as an added incentive to give it a try, Activision is adding more to the free playlist.

Updates to the Modern Warfare Free Access Weekend

Since last Friday, gamers have been able to play a selection of modes and maps from Modern Warfare’s multiplayer for free, thanks to Activision’s latest Free Access Multiplayer Weekend. (Of course, as this event is “extended,” it actually runs from Friday to Wednesday.) The five maps available include Petrov Oil Rig and Suldal Harbour; two of the new maps added to the game very recently with the launch of Season 5.

Modern Warfare Free Access Weekend Last Chance Season 5 2

The Modern Warfare Free Access Weekend is currently heading for its conclusion on the 12th of August. As such, Activision is changing up the playlist to give free players something new. “The first weekend of Season Five keeps on giving as Free Access Multiplayer continues,” writes Activision; “Battle on the latest maps and some community favourites across a mix of modes in the free access Multiplayer playlist. On August 11, the playlist will update to Shoot the Ship – a double dose of close quarters on Shoot House and Shipment.”

Shoot House and Shipment are both classic maps which came to Modern Warfare in past seasons. With seven maps now available for free and even more modes, this event is quickly proving to be the largest free access weekend which Activision has run to date. Of course, the company’s aim is to give their wider audience (especially their Warzone audience) a taste of what Modern Warfare’s core multiplayer is like, in the hopes that they’ll buy the full game. Given that both Modern Warfare and Warzone have been record-breakingly successful thus far, that strategy appears to be working.
