The Long-Rumoured Far Cry 6 Could be Announced Very Soon

Following a series of recent, and relatively credible rumours, concerning ongoing development on Far Cry 6 by Ubisoft, an official announcement of the game is looking increasingly likely to arrive relatively soon. It has now been almost a year-and-a-half since Far Cry New Dawn, after all. (And more than two years since Far Cry 5.) A next-gen Far Cry 6 release is a distinct possibility, of course, since it’s one of Ubisoft’s largest franchises.

Recent Credible Rumours About Far Cry 6

Rumours about Far Cry 6 first began to circulate online back in February after noted journalist Jason Schreier stated that Ubisoft were working on Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry. (At the time, he was quashing rumours that a project in development at Ubisoft might be a new Splinter Cell.) Schreier has a long history of accurate leaks and inside information. As such, it’s a safe prediction that Far Cry 6 is currently in development. Indeed, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the game went into development even before the launch of Far Cry New Dawn.

Far Cry 6 Announcement Coming Soon

However, Far Cry 6 rumours sprung up once more very recently. In a recent interview, actor Giancarlo Esposito let slip that he had been working on an as-yet-unannounced game. “This video game I did,” he stated, in an interview with Collider; “which is going to be huge. Can’t really mention.” A now-deleted article from GameReactor UK claimed that Esposito would actually be playing the villain in Far Cry 6. It’s currently unclear why this article was deleted. It is worth bearing in mind that, while it could have been deleted because the information was under embargo or somesuch, it’s equally possible that it was pure speculation with no basis in fact.

However, fans could find out the truth very soon. The Ubisoft Forward online event is due to take place in just a few days’ time, on the 12th of July. Fans are expecting that event to focus heavily on Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. However, a first announcement for Far Cry 6 wouldn’t be a total surprise. After all, Valhalla is due to launch before the end of the year. Notably, the last two Far Cry games launched in March and February, respectively; it wouldn’t be inconceivable to see a next-gen Far Cry 6 launch in early 2021 if Ubisoft plans to ride the wave of the launch of the next-gen consoles with more than one launch.
