Madden 19 Title Update For Feb. 26 Adjusts Catching In Traffic, Pass Coverage, & More

The newest Madden 19 title update dropped on Tuesday (Feb. 26) with gameplay tweaks for very specific items. The biggest adjustments come within the receiving game on both sides of the ball. In addition, there are some fixes for the special teams players when it comes to touchdowns. Here’s a look at what all has been updated with the new Madden 19 title update.

Madden 19 title update: Catching, pass coverage

In a January Madden update, they addressed various exploits, passing coverage, and special teams plays. The newest title update brings some more gameplay tuning to those areas. In particular, they’ve adjusted the catches in traffic as well as the defense on passing plays.

The dev team added some more components to their “match-up formula” when it comes to making those catches in traffic. If a receiver has a number of defenders around them, the logic will now take that more into consideration for how successful a receiver is.

The dev team noted this tuning will “reduce the effectiveness of Aggressive Catches in traffic” due to how close defenders are to the receiver and/or “catch point.” Additionally, they’ve fixed an issue where players who made a catch in traffic weren’t ruled down correctly after hitting the ground.

Two specific pass coverage options were also tweaked with this update. Cover 4 Quarters Trips logic is improved and can better defend certain pass route combos. They also adjusted Curl Flat defender in Cover 3. They basically fixed an animation issue where some defenders weren’t carrying out their coverage assignments properly.

Madden 19 title update: Other gameplay tweaks, fixes

There were a few other notable gameplay tuning or fixes with this title update. One of those is added fumble risk for using the spin move if the ball carrier is hit in the back with a “successful hit-stick tackle.” They tuned the spin move fumbles back in early December as well, so this update brings more to that aspect of the game.

They’ve also addressed a glitch some players were using to avoid Aggressive Pass Rush coach adjustment penalties. Basically, some gamers were using the pre-play to shift their defensive line back and forth (see video below). Now, those defenders will jump offsides when shifting like that, so watch out for the penalties.

As mentioned, Special Teams touchdowns are a part of this title update too. In particular, this applies to fake punts and fake field goals. There were instances where the snap receiver scored a touchdown and they weren’t credited for it. That should now be changed, and it should also be fixed within the Skills Trainer (on PS4).
