Madden 20 HB Ratings: Todd Gurley, Ezekiel Elliott Lead Top 20 Halfbacks in NFL
When the new player ratings arrived in mid-July for Madden 20, gamers and NFL fans quickly began the discussions. Were certain players rated too high or thrown an insult based on their overall ratings? One category in which some may be debating that is the Madden 20 HB ratings. It features last year’s rookie of the year Saquon Barkley, and league-leaders like Ezekiel Elliott and Todd Gurley. Here’s a look at who the top 20 NFL halfbacks are in the Madden 20 game.
Todd Gurley leads the Madden 20 HB ratings
The Los Angeles Rams’ Todd Gurley sets the standard for the top 20 halfbacks in Madden 20. Gurley checks in with a 97 OVR in this year’s game, besting the next HB by three points. It also points Gurley just two points away from breaking into the Madden 99 Club.
What’s interesting with Gurley is that none of his attribute ratings are listed as “Best in Game.” He boasts a 96 Break Tackle, 95 Agility, and then 92s for Speed, Acceleration and Elusiveness. He’s also got Superstar X-Factor Zone Ability with “First One Free.” That gives him a better chance of fake outs on a juke, spin, or hurdle move.

Second overall is the Dallas Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliott, who actually led the league in total rushing yards last season. He didn’t rack up as many touchdowns as Gurley, or get quite as far in the postseason, though. Still, with a 94 OVR he’s one of the best in the NFL and could improve on that rating in the coming season.
Rounding out the top five Has are the LA Chargers’ Melvin Gordon, New York Jets’ Le’Veon Bell, and New York Giants’ Saquon Barkley. Each of these players includes the First One Free Superstar X-Factor Zone Ability. Of those players, Saquon Barkley brings the best Break Tackle (97), Agility (96), and Acceleration (93) in Madden 20.
Who are the top 20 halfbacks in the game?
With the top five out of the way, it opens up the floodgate for debates over the other halfbacks. Will Kareem Hunt excel as a member of the Cleveland Browns? He’s heading into the Madden 20 game as the No. 7 overall halfback in the game, tied with Alvin Kamara at 90 OVR. Another player who may surprise fans on the list is the Chicago Bears’ Tarik Cohen. He’s small in stature but makes huge plays on the field out of nowhere.

Keep in mind that these will be the players’ ratings at launch. However, as the NFL season progresses week-by-week, the EA Madden ratings adjustors will keep a close eye on all players. Ratings are adjusted based on real-world performances, so any impressive performances can cause a player to surge. At the same time, any lackluster weeks on a repeated basis could see a guy fall from his spot and even out of the top 10 or 20.
The new Madden 20 game arrives on PS4, Xbox One, and PCs officially on August 2, 2019. However, there’s the option to get it three days earlier on pre-order, or up to a week earlier thanks to EA Access or Origin Access.
