Madden 20 Tournament for COVID-19 Relief to Feature NFL Stars Including Tyreek Hill, Jarvis Landry

While the NFL season is still months away, all of the other professional sports leagues are currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. During the hiatus, sports video games have been under the spotlight as a way to pass the time for fans under stay at home orders. They’ve also become a new form of entertainment for spectators with athletes participating in tournaments. That will include The Checkdown’s Madden 20 Tournament for COVID-19 relief efforts with NFL stars competing.

The Checkdown’s Madden 20 Tournament to feature eight NFL stars

On Monday (Mar. 30), The Checkdown announced their upcoming tournament on social media, showing off the field and bracket. It’s set to feature members of the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs, along with the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, and Philadelphia Eagles.

Among the competitors will be Derwin James who just obliterated former Madden cover star Michael Vick on Sunday night in FOX’s Madden Invitational. He’ll take on teammate Keenan Allen in a Round One matchup. Chiefs’ teammates Tyrann Mathieu and Tyreek Hill will square off in another matchup. There will also be Eagles’ receiver DeSean Jackson taking on 49ers rookie Deebo Samuel and then the Browns’ Jarvis Landry battling Denzel Ward.

They’ve yet to even fire up the consoles, but the trash talk has already started up two days before the tournament even kicks off. Cleveland’s Juice Landry threw a jab at teammate Denzel Ward on the IG post saying, “@denzelward how many pick you going to throw to yourself?! #IGotDaBrowms” Ward fired right back saying, “I ain’t throwing my way, we gonna test that corner on the other side.”

Matchup schedule and how to watch live

Each of the four Round One matchups will receive a one-hour time slot on Wednesday, April 1. They’ll start at 6 p.m. Eastern Time when Jarvis Landry and Denzel Ward go head-to-head on the sticks. At 7 p.m. ET, it will be Tyrann Mathieu vs. Tyreek Hill.

That’s followed by DeSean Jackson vs. Deebo Samuel at 8 p.m. ET. The final matchup takes place at 9 p.m. ET when Keenan Allen and Derwin James throw down in the Madden 20 Tournament. That will lead to the semifinals and finals for the championship.

The tournament will get the live streaming treatment thanks to Twitch. Viewers can catch the NFL stars as they battle it out and most likely, talk plenty of trash to each other, on the official Madden Twitch channel here.
