Madden 21 Gameplay Footage Arrives for Next-Gen Xbox Series X With Upgrade Offer

On Thursday, football video game fans got a look at some of the upcoming Madden 21 gameplay footage for one of the new consoles. A teaser video features none other than the Madden 20 cover star Patrick Mahomes as he talks about the franchise and where it’s headed.

Patrick Mahomes introduces Madden 21 gameplay footage

The new Madden NFL 21 video is nearly two minutes and captures the game’s progression over the years. The graphics and gameplay have dramatically improved.

Gamers finally get a glimpse of the upcoming EA football game around the 1:09 mark as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes takes a snap. The footage continues as Mahomes knocks into Green Bay Packers defenders and ultimately reaches his outstretched arm near the pylon of the end zone.

It’s a brief moment and a disclaimer on screen notes it’s a “work in progress.” Even so the graphics and gameplay appear smooth and probably will have many gamers anxiously awaiting the finished product.

Xbox One owners have Madden upgrade offer

The arrival of this new Inside Xbox video also brings the announcement of a special offer for Xbox One gamers. Any customers who purchase Madden NFL 21 on the Xbox One who want to upgrade to the Xbox Series X version can do so free of charge.

Details from EA’s website indicate that “players must purchase Madden NFL 21 on Xbox One by December 31, 2020 and upgrade to Xbox Series X by March 31, 2021.

It makes plenty of sense for gamers who plan to upgrade to the next-generation console within what is likely the first six months of the new game’s release. This way, it won’t be necessary to buy a separate copy on the new Xbox Series X console.

New Madden game details so far

So far we know there is a cover star as the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson leaked that earlier than EA wanted. We haven’t seen any of the official covers just yet, but those could be on the way in the next month.

The same might be said for a release date. We’ve yet to hear any news on one, but based on the game’s history we can guess.

Madden 20 arrived on August 2, 2019, for Windows PC, PS4, and Xbox One. We saw the Madden 19 game arrive on August 10, 2018, for the same platforms.

Madden NFL 18 was a bit later than those dates, coming out on August 22, 2017, while Madden 17 came out on August 23, 2016. So the new game is likely to arrive in August but probably for just the PS4, Xbox One, and PCs, at first.

That said, the title is coming to next-generation consoles Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. The release date for when those consoles will arrive is in “late 2020” with no specific date. So the release date for the new Madden NFL 21 game on the PS5 and Xbox Series X is likely to coincide with that.
