Madden 99 Club: Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore Has Perfect Rating for EA Game
A fourth member of the Madden 99 Club officially arrived on Thursday. ESPN’s Get Up! program revealed that New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore is amongst the four-player group. Gilmore returns as a player with a perfect 99 rating after achieving the accolade last season. He is one of just two defensive stars with the distinction for Madden 21 player ratings.
Stephon Gilmore revealed as member of Madden 99 Club
The New England Patriots will be embarking on a tough journey with Tom Brady having departed for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, they still possess quite the weapon at the corner spot, which will always be a boost defensively. Cornerback Stephon Gilmore achieves a 99 overall rating in Madden 21 based on leading in attributes categories including Awareness, Man Coverage, and Pass Rushing.
He joined the 99 Club for Madden 20 late last season en route to his NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award. On Thursday, “Gilly” retweeted Madden’s video clip and news of the 99 ratings along with emojis showing off heart, lockdown, and strength.
Gilmore’s been in the league for seven seasons and has achieved quite a bit. He’s a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time NFL All Pro Team member. In addition, he’s got that shiny Super Bowl ring he won with the team and was named Defensive Player of the Year for 2019.
Who else has 99 ratings for Madden 21?
Starting this past Monday, ESPN’s Get Up! revealed a different member each day for the Madden 99 Club. The first man revealed was none other than last year’s cover star Patrick Mahomes, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback and former NFL MVP with Kansas City.
On Tuesday, EA revealed that Carolina Panthers halfback Christian McCaffrey was the second member of the 99 Club. Wednesday brought us the third member and first defensive player in the group with Aaron Donald. Stephon Gilmore is the fourth member of the club, and based on a leaked tweet someone shared online he could be the last one revealed.
That said, we have seen a few guys who are close to gaining entry, if and when an NFL season takes place. One of the closest is Houston Texans LE JJ Watt who received a 98 OVR. Players with 97 OVRs for the upcoming game’s ratings include Khalil Mack (Bears), Von Miller (Broncos), and Russell Wilson (Seahawks).
The new Madden 21 video game officially releases on August 28 for PS4, Xbox One, Windows PC, and Google Stadia platforms.
