MLB The Show 19: GameStop Video Reveals Hitting, Defensive Changes & Improvements

The first in a month-long series of sneak peeks and changes to the upcoming MLB The Show 19 game has arrived. Dubbed by the creators at MLB The Show as “MLB The Show 19 GameStop Monday’s,” last night’s first reveal discussed the improvements and various changes to fielding, throwing and hitting. The focus in the video is on the improvements to defensive efficiency, intelligence and making hitting more fun than it has ever been.

MLB The Show defensive focus

One example upgrade given in Monday’s video is the varying jump off the bat the outfielders will get. Each outfielder’s jump will be determined by how good of a fielder they really are. This is big for many reasons.

If you now have an outfielder who is a bit less than average on defense, playing balls off the wall or getting a great jump at the crack of the bat is going to be a bit more challenging than in years past. The good news is that if your player is rated well on defense, playing the caroms off the wall or making throws into the infield have improved.

There is also a new fielding ability indicator located under each outfielder’s feet that will give the gamer a quick reminder of how good that fielder is. Over 1,300 new fielding animations were recorded for the latest version of MLB The Show, so the upgrades should be very noticeable right from the get-go.

Hitters shall soar in 2019

Everyone loves the long ball, right? Or at least a nice solid double smashed down the right or left field baseline. The Show indicates in their latest video that the staff worked all offseason on making the hitting better and more realistic.

MLB The Show 19 Hitting Improvements

From an all-new hit variety to better swing times, gamers can expect pure contact hitters to be much more effective this season. MLB The Show will hit stores everywhere games are sold on March 26.
