MLB The Show 19 Historical Moments Include Roberto Alomar’s 1998 Career Moment

On July 7, 1998, hours before the MLB All-Star game was to begin, Roberto Alomar probably didn’t realize what a great game he was about to have. Now looking back, it is worthy of MLB The Show 19 to remember this moment.

Roberto Alomar’s big day

Just making an All-Star team is incredible. Winning the MVP in a game that you could do no wrong in and is full of your peers who are also considered the cream of the crop is down right awesome. That is exactly what Roberto Alomar did 21-years ago today.

The game was held at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, so you knew there would be plenty of runs scored. Roberto Alomar was the ringleader for the AL on this day.

Alomar finished the game 3-4, including a home run, and a stolen base. Nowadays, players don’t play past 2-3 innings in an All-Star game just to make sure everyone gets a shot at swinging the bat. So to go 3-4 in a mid-summer classic is something else.

Alomar has held one of the top player ratings on MLB The Show, and for good reason. He was solid at the plate and a gold glove in the field.

Following in his brother’s footsteps

Roberto Alomar’s great performance back in 1998 was good enough to earn him the MVP Award on the evening. Ironically, it was just one season after his brother Sandy Alomar Jr. captured the family’s first All-Star MVP trophy.

Do you think Roberto Alomar’s performance was one of the best ever? It surely ranks with the best of them. Which player do you believe had the best All-Star game performance?
