MLB The Show 21 Server Issues Update Brings Extended XP Rewards for Gamers

San Diego Studio’s MLB The Show 21 recently had its official launch day for current and next-gen consoles. With most new game releases, there tend to be some early issues or glitches to work out. That has been the case with The Show, as a server exception has been causing some headaches for gamers. Luckily, an update allowed gamers to continue to enjoy a special promotion as devs look into the MLB The Show 21 server issues.

What is the MLB The Show 21 server issue update?

The official release date for MLB The Show 21 was April 20 in terms of its standard launch. However, the game arrived four days earlier on April 16 for those who had special pre-order editions giving them early access. Nonetheless, the widespread release of the game came with server issues, as gamers reported the servers going down over the course of several days.

That obviously affected the stability of playing certain modes including competing online against friends, and playing the popular Diamond Dynasty or Franchise modes.

On Saturday (April 24) morning, MLB The Show tweeted out that they were performing server maintenance to work on some of the game’s issues. That maintenance came around 4 a.m. Pacific Time or 7 a.m. Pacific Time on Saturday.

While that server maintenance came very early in the day, it didn’t quite fix things as expected. With some gamers still frustrated, The Show assured them they were still working on things. In addition, they extended a special Double XP promotion for fans for the near future.

“Our priority is to improve our server stability and performance. As we continue to work on those issues, we will be extending the Double XP until further notice. Thank you all for your reports and your continued patience,” they tweeted on Saturday evening.

The good news is that gamers can rack up Double XP, that is if they can access the modes they need to earn it. XP often helps towards improving one’s Diamond Dynasty squad and earning different milestone rewards along the way.

Game receives positive reviews for next-gen

MLB The Show 21 is still fresh out of the gates and obviously if the issues continue it may hamper how the game is viewed. However, this also marks the first time the game has been on both the PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Also, it is the first version of San Diego Studio’s baseball sim to be available in next-gen editions. So along with the current-gen, it had some extra development specifically for the newer PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

With Xbox players getting The Show for the first time in its history, it means more gamers are getting onto the servers. So it makes sense that there will be some issues to confront before it can really be how they envisioned it: a fun cross-platform baseball sim.

So far the reviews have been positive, though. Based on Metacritic, the game Is a 78 out of 100 for the PlayStation 5. It ranks slightly higher for Xbox Series consoles with a 79. Currently, the overall ratings for PS4 and Xbox One are “TBD” on the aggregate review site.

IGN gave their review of The Show 21 several days ago (video below). They called it “Far and away from the best baseball game you can pick up and play on any platform.”

IGN’s reviewer indicated that playing the game on PS5 with the Dual Sense controller and Pulse 3D Headphones provides the “most immersive stadium experience yet.” They added it was “impossible to convey” by video, though.

User ratings on Metacritic aren’t as kind for PS5, with the game receiving a 4.8 out of 10. Xbox Series X/S users gave it a stronger overall 7.3 out of 10, although several people reported numerous bugs or issues early on.

For now, gamers will have to be patient until those MLB The Show 21 server issues are worked out, but it seems like it’ll be well worth the wait to enjoy America’s favorite pastime on current and next-gen.
