Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is Available Now
Just days after the game’s release date (and even trailer) were leaked online, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered has been officially announced by Activision. Moreover, its release has mirrored that of Call of Duty: Warzone earlier this month; rather than promote it ahead of time, Activision has simply announced it without warning on PS4. (Aside from the months of leaks which actually revealed it as early as last year…)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered
As pre-announcement leaks had suggested, the remaster of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 consists solely of the game’s single-player campaign. The game does not feature a separate multiplayer. While it may seem unusual for Activision to release a Call of Duty game without multiplayer, it does make a lot of sense given the timing. After all, Call of Duty: Warzone is only a few weeks old, and Modern Warfare’s multiplayer continues to be enormously successful. Releasing a separate multiplayer ecosystem now would be an unwise move on Activision’s part.
What may irk some players is the manner in which Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered has been released. If you own a PS4, you can download the game today and start playing. However, it will be another month before the game launches on other platforms. The game is presently available to pre-purchase, but won’t be coming to the Xbox One or PC until the 30th of April. There is, however, an added incentive for players of the latest Modern Warfare to pick it up. A free “UDT Classic Ghost Bundle” is available in Modern Warfare for anybody who buys the remaster. This bundle is available from today even if you pre-purchase for another platform.
Now that two of the original Modern Warfare games have been remastered, it looks certain that the rest of the original series are on the way. Indeed, the next game is very likely to already be in development. It should come as no surprise to anybody that, in fact, leaks may already have revealed as much; a prominent Call of Duty leaker recently said on Twitter that Modern Warfare 3 Remastered has been; “getting worked on for a while now”. Of course, it’s impossible to know whether the information is genuine. However, given the franchise’s recent history with leaks…
