Modern Warfare Gunfight Tournament Will be Free-to-Play This Weekend

With the recent launch of ‘Season 5 Reloaded‘ for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the Gunfight Tournament game mode has made its long-awaited return to the game. To further promote that return, Activision has announced plans for a Free Access Gunfight Tournament, which will be taking place this weekend.

The Modern Warfare Free Access Gunfight Tournament

Starting in just a couple of days’ time, on the 28th of August, Gunfight Tournament will be completely free to play. This event follows the same format as previous ‘Free Access Multiplayer’ weekends which Activision has held for Modern Warfare. However, this time, it’s purely Gunfight Tournament which will be available. “If you have a friend that hasn’t tried the full version of Modern Warfare,” writes Activision; “or are a Warzone player looking to hone your skills and unlock prestigious Gunfight Tournament rewards, then enter the tournament and go for gold.”

Modern Warfare Free Access Gunfight Tournament Weekend Announced

Although described as a ‘weekend,’ the Free Access Gunfight Tournament event will actually span five days; from the 28th of August to the 2nd of September. (Just like the last Free Access Multiplayer event, which was held shortly after the launch of Season 5.) During that time, Modern Warfare’s Gunfight Tournament playlist will be open to all. Interestingly, players will be able to unlock rewards while competing, even if they don’t own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Tournament rewards include XP and “high tier cosmetic rewards,” which are all usable in Call of Duty: Warzone.

Activision only recently brought Gunfight Tournament back to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare earlier this week, after an extended absence. The launch also featured the addition of a new map; a Gunfight arena set on the pitch of Verdansk’s newly open stadium. Of course, like other Gunfight maps, it’s only a very small section of the stadium, with plenty of cover and other obstacles.
