NBA 2K League Announces APAC Invitational Qualifying Event For Hong Kong
On Wednesday, big news arrived from the NBA 2K League involving an upcoming 2K international qualifying event. A major invitational will be held in Hong Kong and help determine players for the 2K League draft. Here are the latest details on the international qualifying event coming up very soon.
NBA 2K League’s APAC Invitational
The NBA 2K League APAC Invitational will be the 2K League’s first-ever international qualifying event involving the NBA 2K19 game. This exclusive competition will arrive next month in Hong Kong and includes players from the Asia-Pacific region. That means the best of the best from Australia, China, New Zealand, and the Philippines will be there.
The event will have a total of 20 players competing over the two days in Hong Kong. The NBA 2K League Combine helped determine players who will compete at the event. In addition, player performances at 2K League historical events helped determine elite players who should participate in the Invitational.
The NBA 2K gameplay will include scrimmage games and a double-elimination style tournament on day two of the event. In addition, 2K League representatives and team managers will conduct interviews with the players. At the end of the two days, they’ll have determined “elite players” from the region who will be eligible for the 2019 NBA 2K League Draft.
NBA 2K League continues global expansion
The NBA 2K League is a joint venture created between Take-Two Interactive (parent of 2K Sports) and the National Basketball Association. It’s a professional esports league which has the best overall NBA 2K players globally. It’s unique for esports in that it is the first one a professional sports league in the United States operates.
NBA 2K League Managing Director Brendan Donahue said of the upcoming invitational:
“Our goal is for the NBA 2K League to be a truly global league, with players and teams from around the world. Nine international players competed in our inaugural season and our hope is that number will grow every year. Hosting our first international qualifying event is an exciting moment for the NBA 2K League and an important step in further diversifying our player pool.”
The NBA 2K League APAC Invitational will take place on Saturday, Feb. 2 and Sunday, Feb. 3 in Hong Kong. Viewers will be able to watch the double-elimination tournament on Feb. 3 via the NBA 2K League’s Twitch channel. More information about the 2K League is available at the official website.
