It was a competitive group featuring two Phoenix Suns with Deandre Ayton and Devin Booker along with two Los Angeles Clippers with Montrezl Harrell and Patrick Beverly. Here’s how the remainder of the tournament bracket played out.

NBA 2K Players Tournament Bracket results: Booker takes first semifinals matchup

It was No. 5 Devin Booker against No. 8 Montrezl Harrell in the first NBA 2K semifinals. For the first game, Booker chose to run with the Clippers while Harrell took the Rockets. Book had a 10-point lead in the third and a 15-point lead late in the fourth. He’d ultimately win the first game, 68-54, and go up 1-0 in the best-of-three.

Their second game featured Booker as the Raptors against Harrell as the Bucks. It was close in the fourth, with Harrell getting the Bucks withing two. He had an opportunity with six seconds to go but turned it over. In the end, Booker took the second game 65-62 thanks to consistent free throws. With a 2-0 semis win, Booker heads into the championship game.

Deandre Ayton flexes on Patrick Beverly

The second semifinals had Booker’s Suns teammate No. 10 Deandre Ayton facing off with No. 14 seed Patrick Beverly. For the best of three, Ayton chose the Brooklyn Nets with KD and Kyrie. Beverly countered with the Boston Celtics after debating about taking his own Clippers ahead of the championship.

It was 18-18 at the end of the first. The two traded buckets and trash talk with Ayton getting a two-point lead at halftime. It stayed close in the second half, with Beverly able to go up three as they went to the final quarter. In the end, Ayton held a three-point lead with 11 seconds to go so Beverly fouled. DA pushed it to a four-point lead and then six after another foul. Ayton took Game 1, 75-69 to go up 1-0 in the series.

In their second semifinals game, Beverly took the Denver Nuggets so Ayton surprised everyone and went with his own team, the Phoenix Suns. Ayton knew his own team in the game well and had a 35-29 lead at halftime. Ayton didn’t let up and extended to a 12-point lead with about 30 seconds to go in the third. In the fourth, Beverly was unable to make a comeback despite his best attempt. Ayton wins 74-67 with the Suns it to move onto the finals.

NBA teammates battle for championship

We had an all-Phoenix Suns finals with Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton battling for the title. For the first game of their series, Booker chose the Houston Rockets and Ayton took the Los Angeles Lakers.

They’d show themselves as even competitors in the first as it was 14-14 once the buzzer sounded. However, Booker moved ahead in the second and had a six-point lead, until Ayton hit a shot at the buzzer. It was a four-point lead for Booker’s Rockets at the half.

Booker stepped it up in the third thanks to long-range shots and defense. He was up 10 points with about two minutes left. Ayton brought it back in reach thanks to multiple baskets from Anthony Davis. At the end of the quarter, it was 52-47 in favor of Booker’s Rockets.

Ayton and the Lakers turned it up as the fourth got going. He’d cut Booker’s lead to just a point, as it was 57-56 Rockets with four minutes left. With a minute to go, Booker pushed things back up to 10 thanks to three-pointers from various players. He’d take the first game, 72-62 to go up 1-0 in the finals.

Booker uses Nuggets vs. Ayton’s Bucks in Game 2

In the second game on ESPN and WatchESPN, Ayton played as the Milwaukee Bucks at home while Booker used the Denver Nuggets. It was 19-14 Nuggets after one quarter. Despite trading shots in the second, Booker held a 41-35 lead at the half with the Nuggets.

In the third, Book turned up the trash talk as he pushed to a 10-point lead. He was ahead 55-45 as they went into the fourth. Thanks to multiple offensive rebounds Booker got it up to 63-49 with a bit over three minutes left. A frustrated Ayton was unable to find a way to get back into this one as his Suns teammate claimed the win and title, 74-62.

This NBA 2K players event certainly made for some fantastic entertainment with sports seasons on hold, and also benefited the relief efforts for the ongoing pandemic. A donation of $100,000 will go to the coronavirus relief charity of his choice.
