The WNBA is officially in NBA 2K20 gameplay and the new trailer below gives even more visuals. It also includes commentary from Candace Parker of the LA Sparks and Breanna Stewart of the Seattle Storm. Each of them talk about what having the WNBA as part of this year’s 2K game means for them and fans. In particular, Parker touches upon the idea that it’s important to have WNBA players available for guys and girls to use in the game.

Stewart and Parker also talk about “bigs” shooting the three in the NBA versus WNBA, as well as what inspired them to play at the level they do. There’s also behind the scenes footage as they do the necessary motion capture work to get themselves in the game as well.

NBA 2K20 Gameplay director Mike Wang is also part of the video and discusses what went into getting things right. Wang indicates that there’s “at least three to five thousand animations involved” with the WNBA aspect of NBA 2K20 gameplay. There are even more details about what went into the WNBA feature in 2K20 over at 2K’s Facebook post.

The gameplay video closes out with various highlights from a range of WNBA stars. Parker and Stewart are both there but other stars are highlighted as well. Some of the players shown include the Phoenix Mercury’s Diana Taurasi, Washington Mystics’ Elena Delle Donne, and the Vegas Aces’ Liz Cambage. Fans get a good look at post play, three-pointers, diving for the ball, and celebrations that will be part of the upcoming game.

2K taking on Live with WNBA addition

EA featured the WNBA in the NBA Live 19 game. However, with NBA Live 20 on delay until October, it gives 2K a jump on the competition. Based on the new NBA 2K20 gameplay footage, it looks like it will be just as smooth and fluid as the gameplay involving NBA players.

So far, fans are praising the look as compared to what Live 19 offered. It makes for an exciting addition to the popular NBA 2K line of games as 2K and others continue to celebrate females in gaming. The growth of esports is already starting to showcase this.

During the recent NBA 2K League season, the first female 2K player Chiquita Evans was drafted by the Warriors squad. More females are likely to arrive in the coming seasons. With WNBA added into NBA 2K20, it might inspire someone to follow in the footsteps of Evans, Parker, or Stewart.

The new NBA 2K20 game arrives on September 6, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PCs. See our 2K20 pre-order details for more information about the different editions.
