NBA 2K20 Sales Top UK Chart, Harsh User Reviews Arrive Online

When it comes to video game sales in the United Kingdom, a U.S. sports game has topped all titles for the past week. The NBA 2K20 sales landed the 2K title atop the physical video game sales for the UK. The new game just recently hit the market but has already been taking the UK by storm. Meanwhile, it’s also had its share of early poor reviews from those playing the game.

NBA 2K20 sales come in lower than 2K19

According to a Games Industry report, the NBA 2K20 sales put the new game three spots higher than 2K19 was in last year. The report also mentions 2K20’s sales are “almost a third lower” when compared to those for 2K19. However, the game just debuted this past week and edged out Spyro Reignited Trilogy for the top spot. The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, and Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled rounded out the top five sellers for the UK.

Only one other sports title is on the top 10 for the United Kingdom sales chart and that’s EA’s FIFA 19. The game has been in rotation since last September and now a new edition is on the way. The FIFA 20 game is set to arrive on September 27, 2019.

Here’s a look at the complete UK sales chart top 10 for the past week:

  1. NBA 2K20
  2. Spyro Reignited Trilogy
  3. The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan
  4. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
  5. Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled
  6. Marvel’s Spider-Man
  7. Super Mario Maker 2
  8. FIFA 19
  9. Catherine: Full Body
  10. Wreckfest

2K20 receives harsh feedback in fan reviews

While the new NBA 2K20 sales are topping charts in the UK, the early feedback hasn’t been quite so good. The Metacritic website captures online reviews from game critics and gamers. It currently has just three reviews from sites, with Forbes and Game Revolution each giving NBA 2K20 a 90 in their review. Cheat Code Central is less generous with a 60 out of 100 for their score.

Meanwhile, a number of fan reviews appear to be extremely critical of the new NBA 2K20 game. One fan says “Game feels so slow and buggy and my team is just one big casino for you to waste ur money.” Another claims, “NBA 2k20 is a major bust. This game is a recycled version of last year with a few features not exciting or worth playing.”

Other fan reviews point out the glitches or slow gameplay as well as the removal of customization sliders or the changes in MyGM mode. So far, the basketball simulation title has 120 ratings from users and a user score of just 1.4 on average.

By comparison, 2K19 has an 82 Metascore and 2.5 user score. The NBA 2K18 title received an 80 Metascore and 1.7 user score. One has to look back to NBA 2K17 to see a positive user score for the game. It has a 6.5 out of 10.

It should be interesting to see how the NBA 2K development team reacts to such poor feedback on the new game since they’re usually good about working out the glitches. In addition, they’ve indicated that many of the new aspects or changes in the game have come as a result of community feedback. That said, they may need to look at what made 2K17 popular with fans to rework their new game.

The NBA 2K20 game is currently available for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PCs.
