The NBA 2K21 Next-Gen game has now been in rotation since the week that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles arrived. Since it’s still making its transition to these new consoles, it means ironing out some of the issues with gameplay or elsewhere. A second patch update, numbered 1.03, has now been released for PS5 and XBox Series X/S consoles. Here are some of the latest details.

NBA 2K21 Next-Gen update 1.03 improves gameplay, general game aspects

The second NBA 2K21 next-gen update (1.03) officially arrived on November 25, around the time we revealed the MyTeam Season 3 details. This new NBA 2K21 patch update is exclusive to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

In general updates, it brings fixes for the Lower Bowl feature in all NBA arenas. Likenesses were updated for a number of players or coaches including Phil Jackson, Jayson Tatum, D’Angelo Russell, Jimmy Butler, and Trey Burke. There’s also a “number of newly drafted players from the NBA Draft.”

Other team logos or sponsor patches were updated such as the Boston Celtics and New York Liberty. In addition, the Atlanta Hawks’ mascot had a tail issue which should be resolved, thankfully.

Here’s a look at what improves for gameplay with the next-gen update per the Courtside Report:

  • A new option has been added to allow you to change Shot Meter Color
  • Frequency of contact dunks and alley-oops has been slightly decreased
  • Multiple improvements to motion, including to take charge animations, v-cuts, sprint launches, and dribbling
  • Various improvements have been made to triple threat animations and post behaviors
  • Improved AI layup selection when close to the basket
  • The Green Machine badge will now properly show up in the HUD when activated
  • Made some changes to prevent alley-oops from being thrown from behind the backboard
  • Free throw accuracy has been slightly improved overall

Update also improves The City, The W, and more

Popular modes or features such as The City, The W, MyCareer, and MyNBA all received fixes or changes. In the NBA 2K21 Next-Gen update, The W got the least fixes with just three. One of them was a fix for a “rare issue” where a MyPlayer became invisible in The W. Another has fixed Popularity for a MyPlayer so it increases as it should after a game of The W Online is over.

The City received numerous improvements or fixes including a performance upgrade during gameplay. Some of the buildings, objects, and landscapes received improvements or additions. Other issues they corrected included players showing up as invisible in Pro-Am or disappearing after Garage Hoops and Gatorade Rental Court games.
