NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Soundtrack includes old school favorites, new tracks

2K took to social media on Monday, November 9, to share the announcement of 150 songs coming to the NBA 2K21 Next-Gen soundtrack. The news comes just a day before the game is set to launch for Microsoft Xbox Series X. It seems to have plenty of fans excited, just by scanning through comments, and seeing who is on the playlist.

Both old school heads and new school fans will be pleased by the array of tunes. A Tribe Called Quest appears with their track “Buggin Out” which is off the classic “The Low End Theory.” Digable Planets, another hip-hop crew that evolved during the 1990s, is among the songs with their hit “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat).”

There are also newer artists including the likes of Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, as well as the late Pop Smoke and Juice WRLD. Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Big Sean, Travis Parker, Run the Jewels, and Stormzy are represented. Those are just a small selection of the numerous artists shown on the playlist (below). The majority of tracks were previously released on other albums.

There will be a total of 350 songs for the game, according to a Real Sport 101 report. Songs for next-gen are split into two playlists with one for “2K Beats” and the other for “The City Soundtrack” online.

2Chainz to premiere new album songs on next-gen

However, NME reported that rapper 2 Chainz will premiere five songs from his upcoming album “So Help Me God” on the soundtrack. The rapper’s new album arrives on Friday, November 13, just one day after the game launches on Sony’s new PlayStation 5 console.

2K gamers will be hearing songs from 2 Chainz’s album in the game on Thursday, November 12. That makes for a unique in-game experience on next-gen.

“I’m always looking at new ways to drop new music and connect with my fans. Premiering my music in NBA 2K21 is an incredible, exciting opportunity. Music and sports go hand in hand, rappers wanna be athletes and athletes want to be rappers,” 2Chainz said of partnering with 2K for the in-game songs event.

“2K has grown into a leading music platform and we wanted to bring the NBA 2K community these hits to ball out to in The City or at the 2K Beach,” the hip-hop star added.

2K provides playlist ahead of game launch

In conjunction with the announcement about the NBA 2K21 Next-Gen soundtrack, they also hooked up fans with a playlist. The official soundtrack is below, with 138 of the songs available for streaming online. That gives a good taste of what to expect when the game launches for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.

The Next-Gen Edition of NBA 2K21 will officially launch on Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S consoles first. That happens on Tuesday, November 10, when the console debuts. The Sony PlayStation 5 comes two days later on Thursday, November 12.

Fans are ready to experience upgraded gameplay, improved Franchise mode, WNBA MyPlayer creation, WNBA Franchise, and The City. The latter is a vast online community complete with NBA 2K21 Affiliations. Gamers also have what seems like a great set of songs to enhance their experience even more on next-gen consoles.
