NBA 2K22 Player Ratings Update: Giannis Takes Top Spot, DeMar DeRozan Joins 90 OVR Club

Move over Steph, Giannis is taking over! The NBA 2K22 player ratings update has arrived and with it, there’s a new top star leading the league, again. Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to make noise and lead MVP conversations as his team contends for a second-straight title. Meanwhile, another squad, the Chicago Bulls, is leading the East, and much of that is thanks to DeMar DeRozan. He was a recipient of a boost as well as other players in this week’s update.

Giannis tops NBA 2K22 player ratings update

In the NBA 2K22 video game, real-game performances impact NBA players’ ratings. The Greek Freak continues to bring all sorts of problems to opponents on the hardwood, as he looks to help the Milwaukee Bucks (26-17) defend their 2021 NBA Championship. Giannis is currently putting up 28.4 points, grabbing 11.4 rebounds, dishing out about six assists, and blocking 1.4 shots per game.

That has led to his Bucks remaining within the Eastern Conference playoff standings, with a current record of 26-17 overall. He’ll likely land a starting spot on the NBA All-Star Team again, and he remains amongst MVP frontrunners, again.

With that said, the NBA 2K22 player ratings update rewarded Giannis with a plus-one upgrade, moving him to 97 overall. That puts him ahead of all players right now, as Steph Curry slipped by one point to become a 96 OVR. That could be due to Klay Thompson’s return giving Steph fewer looks and less of the load.

Bulls’ DeMar DeRozan joins 2K22’s 90 OVR Club

Just recently, VGR reported about the new DeMar DeRozan Moments Reward card available, which is a 97 OVR Galaxy Opal in MyTeam. In the regular game mode, DeRozan isn’t quite a 97, which is reserved for the elite stars like Giannis and Steph. However, his recent boost of a point, pushed him to a 90 OVR, adding him to the collection of the league’s top stars.

DeRozan and the Bulls currently lead the Eastern Conference with a 27-12 record, which is just 1.5 games ahead of Brooklyn. As far as DeRozan goes, he’s edging out teammate Zach LaVine for the leading scorer with 26 points per game. DeRozan also averages 5.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists as part of a potent Chicago lineup.

Other NBA players who made moves up

Per the 2K ratings report, several other players already in the 90s got further boosts. Trae Young is on the rise as he moved up a point to a 91 OVR, while fellow point guard Ja Morant gained two points to become a 92 overall in the 2K22 game.

James Harden rejoined the 90 OVR Club with a one-point boost. Giannis’ teammate Jrue Holiday surged by three points, to get to 86 OVR. Here’s a look at other notable increases:

  • Aaron Wiggins, Thunder: 74 OVR (+6)
  • David Duke Jr., Nets: 73 OVR (+5)
  • Lance Stephenson, Pacers: 77 OVR (+4)
  • Cameron Johnson, Suns: 79 OVR (+4)
  • Jalen Smith, Suns: 76 OVR (+4)
