NBA 2K23: Release Date, Ratings, Cover Predictions, Platforms, & Latest News

We are just a few months away from NBA 2K23. As we look forward to the next installment in the franchise, we can go over what we know so far. Below, we share the latest news and rumors regarding the release date, cover predictions, platforms, game modes, and more.

NBA 2K23 Release Date

There is no official release date for NBA 2K23 yet. But here were the dates when NBA 2K games released over the past few years:

  • NBA 2K22 released on September 10th, 2021
  • NBA 2K21 released on September 4th, 2020
  • NBA 2K20 released on September 5th, 2019
  • NBA 2K19 released on September 7th, 2018.

By default, the games seem to release on the first Friday of September. But when the first Friday of September is really early in the month, 2K Sports has opted for the second Friday. This makes the most likely release date for NBA 2K23 September 9th, 2022.

No early access was available for last year’s game, so we do not believe there were be early access this year either.

NBA 2K23 Cover Athlete Predictions

There are rumors that following his performance in the Finals, Stephen Curry may be a top candidate for the cover of NBA 2K23. But Ja Morant, Nikola Jokic, Jayson Tatum and Joel Embiid are also top contenders. In fact, last we checked, odds were strongest for Ja Morant at +100.

NBA 2K23 Player Ratings Betting Odds

Per BetUS, here are the predictions for highest player ratings:

  • Kevin Durant (Brooklyn Nets) – 97
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks) – 97
  • LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers) – 96
  • Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors) – 96
  • Kawhi Leonard (Los Angeles Clippers) – 96
  • Nikola Jokic (Denver Nuggets) – 96
  • Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers) – 96
  • James Harden (Philadelphia 76ers) – 96
  • Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks) – 96
  • Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers) – 94

NBA 2K23 Platforms and Game Modes

To make predictions about game modes and platforms, we can look at NBA 2K22, which featured a previous-gen Standard Edition, a Cross-Gen Digital Bundle, and a Special Edition. Players on previous gen consoles got The Neighborhood, whereas those on current gen consoles got The City. Another difference was MyLEAGUE/MyGM for previous gen consoles versus MyNBA for next gen consoles.

This year, we expect to see similar divergences between the releases for current and previous gen consoles, but time will tell.

When to Expect the NBA 2K23 Reveal Trailer

Here were the release dates for reveal trailers for past NBA 2K games:

  • June 5th: NBA 2K19
  • July 1st: NBA 2K20
  • June 11th: NBA 2K21
  • July 14th: NBA 2K22.

Why was the trailer so late last year for NBA 2K22? The reason probably had to do with getting The City ready. That should not happen again this year, so it seems likely we will get the trailer for NBA 2K23 earlier in July. Check in with us in our  NBA 2K news section again soon for more updates.
