There is just one week to go before the release of A Plague Tale: Innocence; the upcoming action-adventure title from Asobo Studio. The narrative-driven title tells the tale of a brother and sister on a journey through a rat-infested France during the events of the Black Death. In a new A Plague Tale trailer, gamers have a chance to see what its gameplay will actually be like.

A Plague Tale: Innocence Trailer Gives Players a Gameplay and Story Overview

Thus far, players don’t know a whole lot about the story of A Plague Tale: Innocence. However, the game appears to focus on an emotional narrative, telling the tale of two young siblings in France during the Black Death and the Hundred Years’ War. This latest A Plague Tale trailer gives a rough idea of what that story will involve; “Amicia and her young brother Hugo set out on a poetic and harrowing journey deep into the dark heart of the plague-ridden, war-torn kingdom of France,” explains the narrator; “Following an unspeakable tragedy, the siblings are forced to abandon their home, pursued by the relentless Inquisition and unending swarms of ravenous rats.”

Indeed, it is these rats which first drew the attention of so many gamers when the title was revealed; gameplay footage of the swarms of rats in A Plague Tale are certainly harrowing, if not downright horrifying. While the siblings face both human and rodent threats, Huge is also suffering from a sickness, which Amicia is attempting to find a cure for. This isn’t a game about combat; rather, the game focuses on exploration and using the environment to players’ advantage. Playing as Amicia, who is still a child, players will use a sling, fire, and other tools to overcome obstacles. A Plague Tale also relies heavily on light mechanics; the never-ending swarms of rats are held at bay with fire.
