New Version of the Parody Fallout 4-76 Mod Replaces All Humans With Synths

Around three months ago, a mod was released on NexusMods called Fallout 4-76. The mod came out shortly after Fallout 76 was announced at E3, and aimed to be an absurdist parody of gamers’ worst fears for the upcoming title. The mod goes over-the-top by doing things such as spawning random “griefer” enemies with names like “L33T PWNZ BOSS”. Now, the modder responsible has released a new update which replaces all human NPCs with synths.

The Latest Version of the Fallout 4-76 Mod

Fallout 4-76 was first released on the 21st of June, earlier this year. The latest update, however, launched just two days ago. The mod is the work of a modder who goes by SKK50; “Fallout 4-76 transforms the Commonwealth into an open world with all areas unlocked and no human NPCs,” explains SKK50; “for a quest free land of scavenging opportunity. Options to replace all humans with nothing/ferals/synths, rescue new settlers, spawn stalkers to grief you, dodge loot coughing nukes randomly launched at you.”

Fallout 4-76 is a Parody of Fallout 76

The new “Synth World” update replaces every human NPC in Fallout 4 with aggressive synths. Options exist to give these synths timed respawns of between 1 and 64 in-game days. They will be automatically populated around the player as the player moves. For added difficulty, players can set them to only die from headshots. The only areas where synths will not auto-spawn are in areas around owned Workshops. Similar options for feral ghouls already existed in the mod. However, synths present a new set of challenges; “Melee synths may pick up and use ranged weapons/ammo that’s lying about,” warns SKK50; “which can get sporty.”

Fortunately, Bethesda has done a great deal to reassure players since the first barrage of concerns after the announcement that Fallout 76 would include multiplayer. We now know that there will be a complex anti-griefing system in place; one which will restrict PvP to an opt-in/out challenge system and harshly penalise players who break the rules. (By putting a bounty on their head taken from their own stash of caps and making their location visible to all other players.) Moreover, the lack of human NPCs won’t mean a lack of quests. The game will use robots and holotapes to tell its stories, which will include a major central story quest.
