Earlier this week, Creative Assembly released their first developer update for quite some time, giving fans a glimpse of their upcoming plans for Total War: Three Kingdoms and Total War: Warhammer 2. In both cases, this includes a variety of DLC, while development on Warhammer 3 continues. However, there was another teaser in that update; that a new Total War Saga game was on the horizon. Now, the studio has confirmed that a reveal for that game is coming tomorrow, on the 19th of September.
Is the Next Total War Saga Game Set in the Trojan War?
The Total War Saga series began with the release of Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia in May of 2018. That game was built upon the engine of Total War: Attila, and aimed to cater to the franchise’s fans who prefer historical games more akin to older Total War games like Rome and Shogun. Reception to Thrones of Britannia was mixed, although Creative Assembly did write in their recent update that the game had done well enough to justify continue the series. Indeed, the studio first teased that the next Saga game was in development seven months ago.
More recently, Creative Assembly released the second Total War Saga game; Fall of the Samurai. In this case, however, Fall of the Samurai wasn’t actually a new game; it was originally released as an expansion for Total War: Shogun 2. The recent re-release simply made the expansion available as a standalone title. Now, the series will get its third official entry. However, unlike Fall of the Samurai, this will be a completely new game. Officially speaking, Creative Assembly has not revealed what this game will be. However, it has become something of an open secret among the community.
Tomorrow, at 3:00 PM BST on the 19th of September, Creative Assembly will reveal their third Total War Saga game, and by far the most likely reveal will be that this game will take place during the Trojan War. If you need any indication of that, you can simply look at the URL of the teaser image posted on social media; a URL which contains the rather telling segment “TROYWEBTEASE”… Although fans have yet to see this game in action, the anticipation among the community is certainly high. The Trojan War has long been an area of history which many fans have wanted to see in Total War. It’s unknown what exactly this new game will be like, but in their update earlier this week, the studio wrote that they want to be; “brave with new features and dynamics to push the series forward in interesting ways.”
